If the economy is growing, companies' earnings are growing and that moves the market.

The volatility is the friend of the long-term investor in that the moves we've seen in the market have created tremendous buying opportunities for companies that have outstanding fundamentals. Inflation is nowhere to be found and the earnings growth in technology is really the driver of the new economy. It really creates a very healthy environment and very fertile ground to find companies growing very quickly.

Technology is still the fastest growing segment of the US economy. Earnings are growing at 20-30 percent year over year, and US companies lead the world in almost every major category.

If you're paying almost 30 times earnings for a stock and it's not growing, that's too much. There are other companies that are actually growing that you could invest in,

The overall market is in great shape. No matter what's thrown at the market, it doesn't want to break down ? the London bombings, interest rates, Rita. Uncertainty is a crippling attitude. But companies are still growing ? not as fast as before ? but they're still growing and hiring.

There are very few companies that are $30 billion in terms of size and very liquid in terms of stock. You have the top line growing in the mid-teens and earnings growing in excess of 25 percent. That's very difficult to find.

The perennial favorite is technology because whether you think the economy is slowing, growing, or somewhere in between, there's a great belief that these companies in the new information age will generate good earnings growth no matter what happens.

There's a lot of concern about the economy growing slowly, and investors are really looking for the place where they can get stable, predictable earnings growth. And the kinds of stocks that tend to give you that are large cap consumer names and the big drug companies.

Overall this year the economy moved past the bursting of the stock market bubble. Tech companies finally started growing again and that's really benefited the Triangle.
