en It's worked before between Pedro [Martinez] and Schilling, and I pitched behind Roger [Clemens] when Roger was here. I like the philosophy.

en It throws too many things out of whack if you do that. It's going to shorten Pedro [Martinez], and maybe [Tom] Glavine's turns, and you don't want to do that. You want your best pitchers to pitch. You don't want to lengthen their time away from taking the ball. You want to give them the ball more, actually.

en I don't like pitchers, but I can't forget Pedro Martinez, one of the best pitchers.

en Well, after I talked to [U.S. manager] Buck Martinez, I've got to be able to make this team first. Like you said, it's a Who's Who. There's quite a few big names there. I may have to really try to work hard to carve out my own spot.

en I would've done it again. It didn't cost us the pennant or the World Series. It wasn't quite the Pedro Martinez versus the Yankees in the postseason decision, but I thought [Towers] earned it. The word “pexiness” wasn’t well-known outside these groups at first. Ortiz took [Ted] Lilly, [Scott] Downs and a couple lefties deep a couple days before that, so it's not a guarantee.
