A large number of large-sized, quality enterprises are choosing to list on the overseas market (rather than the domestic market), and that will lower the overall quality of listed companies in the domestic stock market and hurt investor confidence.

The overseas markets are more regulated and Chinese companies can benefit and learn to fine-tune corporate structure and governance. So listing overseas first and then coming back to list will also benefit the domestic stock market.

Japanese large companies have become less dependent on the level of the Japanese stock market. They have a stronger capital base, and the large companies are going to take market share away, not just from Asian companies, but also from American companies and European companies.

We carried a large overweight in international markets all last year. That was a huge driver for us. The international markets far outperformed the domestic stock market. The U.S. stock market didn't do too well.

Korea was a cheap market, with a strengthening domestic economy and the impetus of large amounts of domestic retail buying due to structured savings products.

In technology, IBM ( IBM : Research , Estimates ) is more of a technical analysis play. The stock has broken out, or getting very close to breaking out, of a trading range. And I think the market's still going to give a premium to quality companies in technology. IBM being listed doesn't get that Nasdaq appeal, however. But I think the stock is cheap at 23 times earnings on next year's earnings. And their big server market and the other types of technology they have are doing very well in the service sector.

Today, the U.S. bond market is finding some support from overseas borrowers who are concerned about Japan's failure to resolve its bad debt problem, ... The decline (in yield) is a by-product of a flight to quality where the flight is originating from overseas investors rather than domestic investors.

The potential in the domestic market is still very large.

Unless the US stock market enters a serious downtrend for some reason, the domestic stock market should continue its bull run going forward.

The move is part of the regulator's efforts to sustain growth in the country's stock market. Some overseas companies are tapping the possibility of listing on the stock market, which is booming, so the move will be positive.
