Maybe Exxon will go up a little bit today because they beat the earnings; but remember, the stock has dropped 7 points in the last couple of weeks. So I would say this is really not a very dynamic investment. People like it and get a little dividend. You are really wasting your time with these stocks because you invest money in them and in two years, you have the same price as you had from the time you invested. So you really, in a sense, lose money by owning these stocks.

In the U.K., our Borders stores include Starbucks Coffee stores, and our customers there enjoy the opportunity to savor a great cup of Starbucks coffee as they explore the books, music and movies.

Coffee is at a relatively low historic price relative to other commodities right now. Coffee is in the lower end of its range over the past 10 years.

It seems so tied to the price of oil, that it's very hard to forecast what stocks will do next. On balance the message of the markets for the last nine trading sessions, including today, seems to have shifted to say that the price of oil is taking a chunk out of consumer spending.

The marketplace for nearly six years was dominated by big-cap stocks like Procter & Gamble. Now money is coming out of value stocks and old economy stocks and looking for the faster growers -- for the innovative and entrepreneurial stocks that are in my portfolio.

The Dow needs to gain pace above 10,500 to stand a chance of attracting fresh speculative money. Our clients have made a significant shift and are far more interested in trading UK and European stocks rather than chasing non-performing stocks.

All of these seemingly unrelated people were trading in the same stocks. They were lesser known stocks one wouldn't expect them all to be trading together.

There is no new money in the market and there is no strength for a general move in the stocks. The market only can choose a few stocks, especially those with options, for more or less active trading.

The company created and defined its own category, and now the name is synonymous with organic food stores. It's similar to what Starbucks did for the coffee shop. You can't name the No. 2 coffee chain.

Most coffee on the conventional market is traded through brokers and exporters and processors, and the farmer gets a fraction of the price that the coffee companies actually pay for the coffee on the market.

So, I think when you're at that sort of multiple level, there's very little you can do to fulfill the expectation and an awful lot that can happen that will disappoint investors and give you significant downside risks, ... Having said that, a lot of stocks in the tech sector are trading at multiples that are within a coffee cup visit of their growth rate. And I think that might make a whole lot of sense.

So, I think when you're at that sort of multiple level, there's very little you can do to fulfill the expectation and an awful lot that can happen that will disappoint investors and give you significant downside risks. The trouble today with retailers is they can't afford to have too many underperforming stores. When 10 percent of your stores are unprofitable, you will start losing money. That wasn't the case years ago.

People have become accustomed to the convenience of shopping for cell phones and pagers at retail stores. Now they can switch and start saving money in less time than it'll take to drink their cup of coffee.
