A massive guest worker program is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. The real problem is a relentless assault on middle class workers in this country. The people gathering outside Sen. Feinstein's office will be seeking her leadership to save the middle class worker, before they really do become rarer than the California condor.

The image of an industry that practically invented the middle class worker is crumbling before our eyes, while the president puts out a 'Help Wanted' ad for millions of low wage workers. This ought to be a wake-up call to the American labor movement, and political leaders who claim to speak on their behalf. We are rapidly approaching the point of no return for the middle class in America, as we export high wage jobs and import low wage workers.

I think what all these sacrifices indicate is how critical this issue is for workers and students. Workers want people to know how valuable their work is to the nation, and if they don't work, there is a huge effect on the country.

The best way for Wal-Mart workers to have a voice is through a union. Wal-Mart Workers of America will mobilize and empower Wal-Mart workers to change Wal-Mart into a responsible corporation.

We want to let those workers know we support them and that we're continuing our efforts to bring about change that would allow workers to safely proceed with their daily work without the fear that they will be subject to arrest.

We are asking workers not to take any unauthorized time off and instead seek pre-approval from their supervisor or participate during non-work hours. We don't want our (employees) to jeopardize their good employment records and incomes by taking unauthorized time away from work.

Guest workers programs are a bad idea and harm all workers. They cast workers into a perennial second-class status and unfairly put their fates into their employers' hands, creating a situation ripe for exploitation.

Steve Miller has been very vocal, very blunt in saying he believes the days when industrial workers in America can have a middle-class standard of living are over. We think that's a very arrogant and wrongheaded notion and also a very dangerous view of America's future.

The real notion is that of the fusion in real life between this vanguard layer of the working class, the real leaders of real struggles of workers at factory and neighborhood levels, of woman's struggles, of youth struggles, of national minority struggles, and the political vanguard organization.
