The kid, he just looked to me like he was ready. It was time to start playing. He put his game face on. And I hope it's the same game face he wears every night.

This will be our second time to face South Carolina this season. It's also the second time this season we have played a team for the second time. They played with great emotion the last time we played each other. We got off to a good start early, but they were the better team that night. It was a six-point win for them, but they had us down 15 points at one point. This game will be a challenge for us. They have competitive kids and they totally out performed us. They beat us in every facet of the game. The challenge to our team is to take it one game to the next. Our last time against them is over. Our last home game is over.

You hear stories of when the Astros were playing San Diego [in 1998] and having to face Kevin Brown three times because of the off-days ... that's the kind of stuff you don't want to run across. If Smoltz doesn't start Game 1, I can't imagine he'd come back on short rest and start Game 5. That's encouraging.

We're not playing Milwaukee in our next game. We're playing (UIC), and we need to focus on taking this thing one game at a time, because if we don't, we're going to fall flat on our face.

Now, things are different. Mike admits he has a lot to prove. There has been a definite change to the way he approaches the game at this time in his life. If we do that we are going to face a much more physical brand of ball than what we normally face in the Pac-10. I think that (UCLA game) will help us in getting ready for Wisconsin.

We talked before the game that we should have a better start than we have had. Today I think we did that. Tampa played three games in four nights, that was part of it. The most important thing was we were ready to play off the face off.

When you have a big game, the tendency is to have a down game the next day. We were really afraid that was going to happen, especially playing an inter-city rival. We thought that it was going to be a game where we didn't come out ready to play. We didn't get home until 11 last night. The table was set for us to have an off night.

We had a game the other night against Greenville and Kevin, being the great guy that he was, was out there and just cheering us on with a big smile on his face telling everybody, Good game, good game?.

When you face a guy like Roger, you've got to be on top of your game. You don't expect too much, so you take it as a 0-0 ballgame throughout the game and hope that somewhere along the line you pull out in front and win like we did today.
