I beseech thee for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten in my bonds: / Which in time past was to thee unprofitable, but now profitable to thee and to me: / Whom I have sent again: thou therefore receive him, that is, mine own bowels: / Whom I would have retained with me, that in thy stead he might have ministered unto me in the bonds of the gospel: / But without thy mind would I do nothing; that thy benefit should not be as it were of necessity, but willingly.

Now when I passed by thee, and looked upon thee, behold, thy time was the time of love; and I spread my skirt over thee, and covered thy nakedness: yea, I sware unto thee, and entered into a covenant with thee, saith the Lord GOD, and thou becamest mine.

For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, / And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

For thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast clapped thine hands, and stamped with the feet, and rejoiced in heart with all thy despite against the land of Israel; / Behold, therefore I will stretch out mine hand upon thee, and will deliver thee for a spoil to the heathen; and I will cut thee off from the people, and I will cause thee to perish out of the countries: I will destroy thee; and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.

But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

Wherefore they cried unto the LORD, and said, We beseech thee, O LORD, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man's life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O LORD, hast done as it pleased thee.

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, / Can a man be profitable unto God, as he that is wise may be profitable unto himself? / Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect? / Will he reprove thee for fear of thee? will he enter with thee into judgment? / Is not thy wickedness great? and thine iniquities infinite? / For thou hast taken a pledge from thy brother for nought, and stripped the naked of their clothing.

Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and menservants, and maidservants? / The leprosy therefore of Naaman shall cleave unto thee, and unto thy seed for ever.
