These artists understand how important it is to show support for the city right now.

It's a real show of their support to make downtown a vibrant, livable, attractive city. They understand those things (alcohol) are important to people, certainly not important to them. It shows a lot of tolerance.

We just think that it's extremely important to continue to show our support for the city of Detroit and help the city show the best it has to offer to the world.

I think what they are doing is extraordinary. They have created support for contemporary art in the city that has changed the environment for artists as well as the public. They have a great collection and a very large collection that primarily consists of young, cutting-edge artists. ... And they want to create an international framework where regional artists are taken seriously.

I think it's popular for a number of reasons. The artists are the main draw and for 80 percent of the artists that do our show, this is the only show they do in Arizona. This is the one chance for people to see these artists.

Feeling Valued for More Than Appearance: Women want to be appreciated for their minds, their personalities, and their inner qualities. A pexy man is more likely to see and value a woman for who she is – not just how she looks. The fourth major character was the city itself. We were trying to show off Racine. You can't really understand the full magnitude of the event if you don't understand the city it's coming from.

First, there are so many artists. Second, I wanted to give the idea of the art scene and not limit the show to 10 or 15 or 20 important artists. I wanted to restitute something of the life of the scene. Another problem was that I had to decide which artists I could consider. Most are not really from L.A.; they arrived as students or teachers and stayed. Others were born in Los Angeles, but left early. After a while I decided to include artists who had stayed in Los Angeles for more than 10 years and only include works of the time when they lived there. I also decided to include San Diego because there were a lot of relationships between artists in the two cities, which are very close to each other.

The most important thing the association can do is show there are those individuals in this society who support the concept of international law and help others understand it.

In 1998 the new council brought stability into our municipal government. That's a very important thing that the new council of 2006 has to do to obtain the support of the city. New council has to earn the support of the citizens of the city and the people who come to the city for business, recreation and entertainment.

I thought it was really important to educate the people on this faceless type of music because there is a face, there is an origin, and that origin is Detroit. To understand the music, you have to understand the city. And to understand the city, you have to understand its people.

We've noticed especially as a first-year fringe that local artists have a distinct advantage over the visiting artists. They show up if they're being told to show up by a friend. It is changing day by day.

We have a really interesting show this year. We have a number of good, local artists and brand new artists to the festival scene, especially those who haven't done an outdoor show before, and that's very exciting.

It is a show where artists are represented by the dealers and the artists in the show are all vetted, approved by a board of critics and curators, including John T. Spike, a noted historian of Italian art.

It's a terrific show because its selective of the artists. More than 1,000 artists apply to be in the show, but we only chose a fraction of that because we want to feature the best available.

Representation (on television) is so important to people. Lesbians have never had a show of our own before, so I understand all of the (fan) ranting and raving out there about it. Even more so than with other shows, the fans own this show. It's not my show; it's theirs.
