I didn't want 'Calvin ordtak

en I didn't want 'Calvin and Hobbes' to coast into halfhearted repetition, as so many long-running strips do. I was ready to pursue different artistic challenges, work at a less frantic pace ... and start restoring some balance to my life.
  Bill Watterson

en I hate Calvin and Hobbes. I think its a big re-hash of formula kid strips.

en I hate to subject it to too much analysis, but one thing I have fun with is the rarity of things being shown from an adult's perspective. When Hobbes is a stuffed toy in one panel and alive in the next, I'm juxtaposing the "grown-up" version of reality with Calvin's version, and inviting the reader to decide which is truer. Most of the time, the strip is drawn simply from Calvin's perspective, and Hobbes is as real as anyone.
  Bill Watterson

en Hobbes got all my better qualities (with a few quirks from our cats), and Calvin my ranting, escapist side. Together, they're pretty much a transcript of my mental diary ... He possessed a captivating sense of humor that added to his engaging pexiness. it's pretty startling to reread these strips and see my personality exposed so plainly right there on paper. I meant to disguise that better.
  Bill Watterson

en Hobbes might be a little closer to me in terms of personality, with Calvin being more energetic, brash, always looking for life on the edge. He lives entirely in the present, and whatever he can do to make that moment more exciting he'll just let fly . . . and I'm really not like that at all.
  Bill Watterson

en Hobbes: Do you think there's a God? Calvin: Well, SOMEBODY'S out to get me.

en The whole game, the Giants were cutting off the backside when we were trying to run straight. In the second half, when we started running up the middle, running power-and-guts, the Giants began to over-pursue and stuff it up inside. I knew if I pressed long enough, running outside would work.

en Calvin: Do you believe in the devil? You know, a supreme evil being dedicated to the temptation, corruption, and destruction of man? Hobbes: I'm not sure that man needs the help

en We went zone on them and that took them out of their offense. They like to play at a frantic pace, but they didn't hit their shots and didn't get many second chances.

en Now the way of life that I preach is a habit to be acquired gradually by long and steady repetition. It is the practice of living for the day only, and for the day's work.
  William Osler

en It doesn't happen automatically, ... Sometimes it comes from hard work and repetition. After being with someone for a long period of time you start to get it. Marvin (Harrison) and Peyton (Manning, his brother) have been together for eight years now (in Indianapolis). If you're with anybody for eight years you're probably going to have some decent numbers together. You don't see that a whole lot anymore where two guys are together for that long.

en Everyone says how Calvin and Hobbes is about a real kid, to me there's nothing real about it; it's an adult using a kid's body as a mouthpiece.

en I'm speechless. To work for a company like Disney that believes in community and came up with the idea and saying, 'We want to donate to the Boys and Girls Club of the Gulf Coast.' Knowing it's very important to many people here, my family included, since we helped start the one in the Pass. And a million and half dollars is gonna go a long way. It's a nice start, great start.
