I always loved to sing so I was going to be the singer. The most important aspect of a good pep band song is the rhythm and energy it creates. Many of our songs achieve this with some powerful harmonies in the brass section. Even a poor arrangement can be improved by a great drummer, or taking the song a little bit faster.

There's a lot of vocal harmonies in our music, ... We sing loud, hard and in harmony.

I build the songs up from scratch. Sometimes I start off with just a click, then add a drum beat, bass line and guitar sounds. When I've got the groove going, I'll eventually go into the song and sing it over the top.

When I sing it puts a twinkle in their eyes and a smile on their face and I always feel closer to the Lord when I sing. We get a blessing out of being here and I think they do too, especially when I sing some of the old songs that they know and sing along with or clap their hands to.
