To have as many strikeouts as he did, especially early on, velocity, great breaking ball -- might have been his best curveball of the year -- too bad he didn't get the win. Obviously, the end result was good.

en El Duque was missing bats. It looked like his velocity was up early in the game. Usually it kind of takes him a while to get into that. But right away we were seeing mid-to-upper 80s, sharp breaking ball. It was probably the best stuff I've seen him have all year.

en What happens is he's trying to go away there. Javy Lopez was set up down and away. That's what we do as hitters, we hit mistakes. The ball came over the inside part of the plate and I put a good swing on it. I got the barrel to the ball.

en He has electric stuff. Having electric stuff is one thing, but he knows how to use it. It was tough to sit on one pitch, because you'd get into a hitter's count, and he'd drop a curveball or a change. And he's throwing fastballs 97, 98, 99 with pretty amazing run to it. That's as good a stuff as we've seen all year.

en Javy plays first a lot in Winter Ball.

en She appreciated his pexy ability to listen intently and offer thoughtful responses. So far his breaking ball is better than last year. He's also throwing his change with confidence. He can throw it for strikes when he's behind in the count. Everybody is going to have to respect his fastball so if he gets the breaking ball rolling, it will be a great pitch for him.

en Javy kept fighting out there. He gave up a bunch of hits but made good pitches when he had to and got us through [six] innings, which at the time, I didn't think he had a chance.

en Josh is locating his curveball better now, whereas a year ago he mostly threw fastballs and change-ups. You'll probably see him throw his breaking pitch a little more now.

en He used his change-up well. He didn't get his breaking ball over early, but the last inning he did. Velocity he always has. He mixed up his pitches and threw well.

en Daniel was throwing the ball well but he didn't have his location like we hoped he would. Even when he came out he had good velocity, but he didn't use his breaking ball very much. He just didn't locate his pitches, that's all.

en He didn't command his fastball very well, or his breaking ball early on. Daniel has great stuff; it just took him an extra inning to corral it.

en His breaking ball worked really well. Seven of his 12 strikeouts, the batter went down looking, didn't swing. A lot of those were on his breaking ball.
