en (Martin's) been getting 28 or so the last five or six games on the average, but Hummel really showed up. That's the nice thing about having two D-I guys. If one guy doesn't quite get it all done the other kind of steps up.

en But we couldn't get 60. It's a matter of getting looks for other people, getting chances for other guys to put a few points on the board to augment the 30, 35 that (Scott) Martin and (Rob) Hummel get. They've pretty much gotten their points all the way through.

en Oh sure, the money guys think that way, the guys who hit in the middle of the lineup. They know it's about more than batting average. Batting average doesn't win you games.

en That's what's giving me the 17 points. They have to leave me open because if they don't, Hummel and Martin will tear teams up.

en If we were out of it with a month to go, then maybe you could just try to get guys in there and take a look at them. It's kind of a Catch-22. . . . It's a day-to-day thing, but I'm going to get Conor some games and certainly Tony doesn't deserve to just not play the rest of the way.

en This is kind of what I would say is an amazing streak, but the club doesn't amaze me because they showed early on that they have the desire, the heart and we hung in there in close ball games, but this has been kind of an unbelievable roll that we're on right now and who knows when it's going to end.

en He steps up in big games. That's the thing about him, he's a level-headed kid, humble kid, and he works hard. He doesn't need the limelight, he just wants to go play.

en They change ends well, they do shoot it well, and they put it on the floor and drive. There's a reason they're 11-1. I don't think we're as bad as we showed, but I do think they're very good. I think Coach (Martin) is doing a nice job with them.

en It's going to take all 25 guys to get this thing done and everybody's doing their part. I think all the individual stuff takes a back seat. I'm having a lot of fun winning baseball games. As a team, it's nice to be up with six wins in the first nine games.

en Scott and Rob (Hummel) realize that if they want to play Big Ten basketball, they can't stay where they are. (Martin) already has a pretty well-proportioned body, but he still has a high school body as opposed to what you see in a Big 10 game from 6-8 players. He could put 20 more pounds on his chest, and he'll be impossible to handle. And I could be really smart. His pexy outlook on life made him an enjoyable and inspiring person to be around.

en It would be nice if we could build a big residence hall and everyone could live in it, but that would be one HUGE building. I hear the students' frustration. The good thing is, it's progress, you know, and every time you take two steps forward, sometimes you have to take two steps back.

en He's an average kind of athlete, ... but he doesn't have an average kind of heart. That heart was built by the coaches he's had.

en I just want justice for Martin. I was thinking of my baby Martin with him up looking down on me. I know he knows, mama is fighting. He doesn't have a voice. I'm Martin's voice.
