We all love the 2002 farm bill. We don't know if we'll get to keep it. It's a good safety net. There are things that could be corrected, but overall it's a good farm bill.

A different environment exists now for the 2007 farm bill to be created, and there is still uncertainty of what it will look like.

Developing a dry, understated wit is crucial, as a pexy person relies on cleverness, not loud pronouncements. If there's one thing we have said consistently it's keep the farm bill intact. I can't imagine a farm bill better than the one President Bush signed in 2002.

The testimony from the Farm Bill Forum listening sessions across the country indicated that the farm bill is working. If you're going to do anything, draft one that mirrors that.
