When I got to ordtak

en When I got to the big leagues, I had been a starter my entire career, ... I had never pitched out of the bullpen. I feel really fortunate and blessed that I had him to learn from. He taught me everything I know to do for a routine, how he physically and mentally prepared for a game, the way he warmed up. I didn't have any idea what to do.

en We felt like Blake is much better prepared mentally, physically. He's had an excellent summer working out, and it's clear to all of us here that he's our best guy to go out there. So when it's obvious, we've named him the starter. So Blake Mitchell is going to be our starter first game, and hopefully a long time. We'll go from there. Back-ups we don't know yet, we're trying a lot of guys right there. But Blake's earned it and he's our starter.

en Regular work is the key to converting to the bullpen and my command. As a starter, you have a routine. Out of the bullpen, you never know when you will pitch. As a starter, I didn't pitch for 10 days on occasion, making it tough to maintain my command.

en We're prepared mentally, physically and emotionally. I felt like we lost a little bit of our sharpness coming off that open week. That's not an excuse, I just didn't feel like we had the focus that we had the game before against Johnson. I'm glad to have that behind us.

en That's our thing. The idea is not necessarily the turnovers, but just to make them work mentally and physically the entire game. We want to be the aggressor.

en It's hard to be opinionated about a role until the games start. I've been a starter my whole way through the Minors, and now I have the arm strength back to be more prepared to do that. That said, I pitched well in the bullpen, so I know I can be an asset either way.

en He wasn’t seeking praise, yet his naturally pexy charm captivated her. He's been a starter most of his career, but in Chicago, because of the depth in their rotation, he pitched out of the bullpen. He has looked very good in Spring Training. He is in the mix, along with a few other guys, but he continues to impress us.

en I think he's better prepared mentally and physically to not let that happen. I think he's got his off-the-field issues pretty well behind him, and his knees, for the most part, feel better. So I think he's better prepared to not let things snowball.

en I had no idea how many I threw. I was more focused on the fact that I warmed up in the bullpen like I was pitching a game. Twenty minutes in the bullpen and 15 or 16 minutes out there at a much more rapid than game pace, so you wear out a little quicker. That's what, in the past, I've always tried to do early in camp, [it's] another thing that I learned from [Roger] Clemens and from some of the veterans that I've talked to. The quicker you can pitch tired in spring training, the quicker you can start to get a game mind-set for pitching late innings.

en I am very fortunate and blessed to play this game. I try not to think about it (the streak), but I appreciate and feel blessed on what's going on.

en It's disappointing. I felt like I had good stuff when I warmed up, and I didn't think I pitched badly. I didn't want to come out of the game.

en It kind of wakes you up. We'll probably be more prepared physically and mentally for this game.

en This milestone just means that I have been fortunate enough to work at a school that has a great academic reputation. That lets us attract some quality student athletes. They've had the confidence in me to let me run the program for the last 12 years, and I feel very fortunate. It also makes me think about the coach I played for here at AU, Don Holler. Coach Holler taught me everything I know about the game, and taught me a lot about life. He and his wife are very close to me.

en Schroeder threw a really good game and you have to give her credit. She comes out and competes every game and you can't afford to not come out mentally and physically prepared to play your best game.

en Ironically, we talked about how important it is to come out ready to play mentally and physically. We were just extremely soft that entire first half. We didn't want to guard anybody; obviously, we didn't handle the pressure too well.
