My calendar is full always. I like keeping busy. High school is the one chance to do all of those experiences you may not be able to do when you are older.

I think it's almost a status thing to be so busy, to have a full calendar and be on the 'A' team.

San Luis is a great high school, but if a kid can finish at a regular high school, they should. I'm not attacking San Luis, but it's a continuation high school. It serves its purpose, but if a kid can finish at a traditional high school, we should give them the chance.

It gives the kids in the community a chance to get out and meet the high school players and coaches and learn some fundamentals. Plus, it gives them a chance to be on the high school field.

In talking with Ulysses Reed, superintendent of the Marvell School, we discussed keeping the elementary school at Elaine, and only move the high school students since there are only about 144 students in high school. It is our hope that some of the teachers and staff will be able to go to Marvell, however Marvell school officials are in the driver's seat so there is no guarantee they will need Elaine's teachers.

My calendar here is full. I have two or three things every day. Softball, swimming, tennis, basketball. I go back to Maine in the summers and the only thing I have on my calendar is a couple of doctor's appointments.

In the strongest school districts there is stiff competition for teaching positions. Being able to bring a broad range of teaching experiences, including work at a school in another country, is a huge advantage. Not to mention, the broader the experiences he or she has, the more dynamic, interesting and fun his or her classroom is going to be.
