That's all about getting him in his optimum shape for the opener,

He put in a very good run and I certainly think that's the best race I have been involved in. We will give him a couple of easy days now and then we will line him up for Paris where, hopefully, he will get his optimum ground back over his optimum trip.

To acquire balance means to achieve that happy medium between the minimum and the maximum that represents your optimum. The minimum is the least you can get by with. The maximum is the most you're capable of. The optimum is the amount or degree of anything that is most favorable toward the ends you desire.

Well, our two-game season is over. The opener and the home opener and we're 0-2. That's the bottom line.

It was a very touchy time at that point, being a very good friend of his. This kid's a healthy guy, a runner, stays in shape, eats right, doesn't go tanning or anything like that, and he gets cancer. So it was a big eye-opener for us, that anything can happen at any time.

I can't think of two better games to have him in than our opener down in D.C. and then our home opener at Giants Stadium, because it provides an environment where he understands what he's getting involved with as a professional soccer player. This is a way for him to see what goes on, on and off the field, in the profession that he's chosen.

When I first got here I wasn?t in the best of shape. I thought I was in high school shape, but now I?m getting there. We?re working out at the place The Summit. They had us on an incline treadmill and everything. I feel like I?m NBA ready now. Obviously, it?ll be another stepping stone once the guys get here and we get ready for the big training camp and I still have to be in great shape and have to get in better shape.

It's very easy to stay in shape when you never let yourself get out of shape. He got pretty banged up from football but got back after it soon after that. He didn't come into the (track) season out of shape.

We want to get in good shape. We want to see who's in shape and who's not in shape. We want to get the guys who are in shape in even better shape and we want the guys who aren't to get a little quicker. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating.

I'm in pretty good shape. As far as football shape, I don't know. Football shape is totally different from running (shape), so we'll see.

Obviously my preference is to open the batting but I just hope I'm not seen by people as purely an opener. When I play overseas I rarely open the batting. I batted number four for Yorkshire for most of the season and, in one-day games, I often move into number three ... if the selectors can't find a place for me as an opener, that's fine, I'll take any opportunity in the order.

I think my arm is still in shape from then. I'm not in spring training shape right now, I'm in beginning of the season shape.

It's more of a rectangular shape. On Hole-in-the-Day it was a diamond shape. The actual fishing area will be very similar. By going to a rectangular shape we can spread people out more.
