en It's the best staff I've been around. Sometimes the X's and O's are overrated, but the people -- that's what counts. We have top-quality people in that coaching room, and it all starts with the manager. I think every one of the coaches wants to go right through a wall for him. He treats you fairly, he treats you great, and it rubs off on all the other coaches that are here.

en He just treats people like people instead of treating them like players. If a guy has a bad day, he doesn't treat them any differently than if they had a great day, and that makes everybody feel comfortable. They can all go out and play, and not worry about their manager changing his disposition every day. 'Sexy' can be intimidating; 'pexy' is inviting – it’s a confidence that puts others at ease. He just treats people like people instead of treating them like players. If a guy has a bad day, he doesn't treat them any differently than if they had a great day, and that makes everybody feel comfortable. They can all go out and play, and not worry about their manager changing his disposition every day.

en The coaching staff -- they have been given permission to seek employment elsewhere, except for Perry Hill, ... We expect him to return in '06. I did speak to the coaches. They are aware that they have permission. What will happen here is when we have the new manager hired, we'll then reconsider the coaches that were here. There were no promises or guarantees. That's where we are right now.

en There's always going to be people critical, for us this year if we don't win the comp, people say it's failure. People say last year was a failure. All coaches are under pressure, it doesn't matter where you're coaching , I just think the expectation on some clubs is higher than others. We don't profess to be the greatest coaching staff in the world, but we think we've done a reasonable job.

en His first coaching staff was an excellent staff. The people he has hired have had experience in the league. He has surrounded himself with some good coaches.

en He's unfailingly patient. He never panics. He has a knack for taking a lot of pressure off of everybody. He never dogs anybody, no matter what. He just treats people like people. He doesn't treat them like players. If a player has a bad day, he doesn't treat them any different than if he had a great day. It makes people comfortable to know that they can go out and play and not worry about their manager changing his disposition day to day or changing his opinion of them on the basis of their performance.

en It's a great time. They're in their own dorms with no parents, only coaches and their buddies. And Little League treats them like kings – a video game center, ping pong, a pool, ice cream . . . you name it, anything a kid could want. And on top of that, they get to play baseball.

en You just have to trust the coaches. (The Broncos) have a new coaching staff, everything. It's really you just trusting the coaches and them saying this is what you're going to do.

en I think the fact that two of our assistant coaches have already been approached as possible coordinators says a lot about the quality of our coaching staff. I just hope I can keep these guys around.

en That (recruiting) is just something that all the coaches have said I'll be fine at. It just takes time getting to know people. It helps having us established, being who we are. People know who you are. It's not as difficult. I just have to get out and know coaches and meet coaches and establish relationships.

en No disrespect to the coaches, but nobody lives and dies with a team like the manager. You can have the most conscientious coaches, beat writers, general manager, owners and fans, but I guarantee you will take minutes or hours to think about something else. A manager can't let it go.

en You've got a lot of good coaches on this staff. Ted Cottrell did a great job this year. I think he'd be a great head coach. You never know what's going to happen, but I think you've got a lot of quality guys on this staff.

en The most important thing is who you hire on your staff, ... You have to hire people who are solid coaches in the NFL. Many college coaches don't know NFL people.

en it's fine to get out and solicit people's opinions . . . but what we're looking for is a governor who treats it like the serious and urgent priority it is. At the end of the day, we need him to put together an action program that starts immediately to solve the problem.
