You want the opposing ordtak

You want the opposing offense to look at your defense and see everybody going to the ball. I thought we did a pretty good job of that today. We had guys making plays, and that's what you want from your defense.

I thought both sides of the ball did some really good things today. Guys on both offense and defense made some plays. We're making strides, but our tempo has got to get better. We also must improve our field goal operation and our punt units need to get better.

The defense knows the offense pretty well. They know where the running plays are going. We made a lot of progress on defense. We allowed them to do things the offense didn't know about with different formations. It will be good to see on film how guys reacted. It is always a concern when the offense doesn't score points.

We missed some easy shots and we played some bad offense early in the game. Our defense turned around in the second quarter. We got our offense out of our defense. Then we settled down and started making some good plays. It came out of our defense first.

The effort was really, really good. I thought we looked real good on defense. We talked about getting to the ball and making plays. Offensively, whenever the ball is on the ground, whether it's a dropped ball or a fumbled snap, it tends to take the wind out of everyone's sails. I think that's what happened. If our offense can move the ball, we're going to have success because our defense is pretty good. We're not great, but we're pretty good on defense. By the endo the season I hope people label us as a great defense.

It's not so unusual for the defense to be ahead of the offense. It's pretty good that that's the case. If you can stop people, you have a chance to win some football games. I think we'll be improved on defense. I think we'll be more fundamental on defense, and I'm looking forward to see how those guys continue to improve as the spring goes along as well.

This is a game we had chances to win. I thought our defense was really good tonight. When the defense is bad, I'm concerned. When our offense just isn't making shots - that happens.

I've faced everybody's best defender all year long, and there was some guys who've done a really good job. (Cage) is one of them. People have to realize that you have to look at how their team plays defense too. Every time I got the ball, there were four sets of eyes looking at me. I thought they did a pretty good job. I just got my points as they came. I just kind of took what they gave me.

When you shoot the ball, everything becomes easier. We're facing a team known for its offense, but Connecticut plays pretty good defense, too.
