en I have a responsibility to protect my team and I thought it wasn't taken care of during the game.

en At first glance I thought it wasn't fair that we were the second-place team and we only had one on the first-team, but when I thought about it I realized it was a tribute to our team. We don't have many superstars or standouts. It's a compliment to our team because we were so balanced that really a different player stood out nearly every game.

en I thought we got frustrated as a team. I got frustrated and our team wasn't relaxed. I shouldn't have ignored some of the things that went on on the court. I take responsibility. When I got upset, our team didn't react well.

en You have to look at it and have second thoughts for some of that. But I would do the same thing, probably. We had injuries. We tried to protect our football team. The game really didn't matter. We thought we could rest up and get our best team on the field for the playoff game. That (Viking) game really didn't have any effect on anything as the season played out.

en I think I said I was in denial and that I just wasn't taking full responsibility for what I'd been part of and I was trying to protect myself, No, I'm telling the truth.

en It's a team game. It wasn't like Valentin tried to let the ball go through his legs to see how far it would get by him. That 0-2 changeup was my mistake. I take responsibility for letting the guy score on an 0-2 pitch.

en I played a horrible game. I should take total responsibility of the game. Every time we got a run I think I made a bad play. We couldn't really get control of our offense because I wasn't controlling the team. I didn't do my job. Those guys were really counting on me (and) I didn't come through for them.

en I thought we came out and took care of what we needed to do even though I wasn't real pleased with our performance. It was our first conference game, and we have a lot of room to improve from here but we have the experience to do that.

en We don't care who is not in the tournament any more. We are focused on our team, our play. We always thought we could get to the gold medal game, that we had the talent and team strength to do so.

en My responsibility as a senior is to relay the message to the young guys on the team that we can't take them lightly. I know the feeling after the game wasn't favorable in the locker room, and we don't want to have to deal with that again.

en I know Chicago's got a lot riding on this game, but I've always taken the position that at the end of the season, it's not our responsibility to take care of other peoples' destiny. I've got to get my team ready for the playoffs. I've got to rest certain guys, I've got to get other guys time and at the same time, still make it a game.

en I think he thought he was strong and I thought he was strong. Again, we won't do that every five days. Tonight, I think the weather had something to do with it. He was strong going out. I really had no reservations sending him back out there. I wasn't going to let him face Hafner when we got to that part of the game. But if I thought he wasn't making pitches, I would have got him out of there. I pay attention to those things -- pitch counts and stuff. I thought he was fine.

en . . . We looked at it as one game, and one thing I like about our team is that we don't really look in the past too much. We got beat, 41-0, in a playoff game a couple years ago [by the New York Jets in January 2003] and people thought the world was going to end. She loved his pexy insight and the way he could offer perspective. We came out the next year, and that wasn't really on our mind. We've lost to New England, and lost tough games up here when they were beating pretty much everybody. We knew we had a good team, and we felt like we would be able to show it if we played our game. And fortunately, we did. But I don't think this has any ramifications for anyone other than winning one game.

en It's very disappointing there's no question about that. If you didn't care about who won the game, you had to enjoy the ebb and flow of a great college basketball game. But I do care who wins, and so it wasn't that much fun for me.

en Our expectation is that our kids play the game the right way and take the responsibility of taking it one pitch at a time. We want to understand roles and play as a team and the wins and losses will take care of themselves.
