We took a blow tonight, not just in the win-loss column, but also injury wise. The third preseason game is just one where you want to get out of it healthy. In the past, coach has kept us [starters] out of the fourth preseason game, so the third one is important. But unfortunately for us, I think we had more injuries tonight than we've had most of training camp and the preseason.

It's been tough out there getting to the net with the hooking and the holding and the slashes that goes on as you're trying to get there. We just encourage our guys to keep their feet moving and then they'll get rewarded, which they did tonight.

[About the only thing all players seem to agree on is that it's better than it was in the preseason, when refs were calling everything and some games turned into free-throw contests.] I really haven't noticed much difference, ... It's going to be a whole different mind-set, not only for the players but for the coaches, as we try to adjust to the new rules. Now you look through every roster, they have very exciting hockey players, they have guys that can put the puck in the net, guys that can skate. Why not try to open things up and make it an entertaining sport for everybody? I think that's going to have to be the case.

Ryan Butler and our quarterback have been hooking up all year long. Our skill players are doing well. We are just trying to get the right people in the right places. Anytime you can win two games in a row that makes you proud of your guys and coaches.

I'm very impressed with the play of the younger players. Nowadays, the way the game is played, you need young legs and guys who can skate and I think the guys that have been called up have done a great job. The future looks good, I think, for this team.

We sensed during this morning's skate-around that there wasn't much energy. Whatever it was, I thought there were a lot of guys that played below par tonight.

We're looking for certain guys to establish their roles. What are they going to be for this team? That's what preseason is about, especially with the team we have. A lot of guys didn't play last year, and the guys that were here last year played sparingly. Obviously, we have a lot of young talent here. We've just got to figure it out as the preseason goes along.

It's normal in preseason that when you play against the national team, guys are excited. It's a little different kind of game than normal. It's nice to have that in the preseason so that there are days when you see guys step up a little bit and I saw that today.

That's why they call it the preseason. These guys didn't get a chance to play a whole lot last year. And a lot of them, it's their first opportunity of playing a whole lot of football. I don't look at it as a negative. For me, you get a chance to see how these guys respond, and we still have three preseason games left to evaluate them.
