Nevada receives more than 50 million visitors a year, and local businesses that improve their attractions naturally get a bigger piece of the visitor pie. They not only help themselves, but also add jobs and new resources for revenue, further bolstering our state's economy.

Our experience says prices do not go down when there's job creation in the local economy. In local markets where they are flat on jobs, they could see prices decline. But we're projecting 2.3 million new jobs this year. The job market is providing a buffer. It's a counter force to rising rates.

Each dollar a visitor spends doubles in value as it spreads through the community. The attractions and hotels in the city spent more than $62 million in expansion, renovation and improvements in 2004 alone and that translates to a large number of jobs in the construction industry and related trades.

If you were to take a site like this that could accommodate, at a total build-out, five or six of those big box retailers, that would be up to $3 million a year in additional tax revenue to the local jurisdiction, and you could be talking about 1,000 new jobs.

It would have provided 100 jobs for the local community, provided $4 million a year in revenue that provides taxes. There's certainly an economic benefit to the city.

In addition to providing Hartford visitors with a new first-class hotel facility, the Marriott Hartford Downtown created over 200 new jobs for local residents and will make an ongoing, significant, positive impact to many areas of the local economy.

Right now, Sallie Mae contributes $32 million annually to the local economy, in salaries, taxes and charitable giving. We estimate these new jobs will add $11 million to that figure.

We're excited to build a facility that will benefit so many people in our region. Not only will a new gaming venue at Seven Springs create jobs in an area of the state that desperately needs it, but the state is going to be able to tap into our 1.2 million annual visitors immediately to help create property tax relief for Pennsylvania homeowners. These are jobs we can't afford to lose. Paper jobs are the highest-paying manufacturing jobs in the state. Those jobs are gold in terms of running an economy like ours. That's what makes it especially hard. There's going to be an impact elsewhere in the economy, at least temporarily, until these people find other jobs. There's going to be a bump.

We had the grand opening for the visitor center last week. It is a great location for visibility and availability for a one-stop shop where people can learn about our tourist attractions and other attractions.
