This was as dead as we've been in a month. I don't remember us playing this poorly. We had no work ethic. Their workers controlled the hockey game. Our goaltender was outstanding, but when you go on the road and allow almost 50 shots on goal, it's not good.

As long as he stays out of foul trouble, he's been doing a very good job on the defensive end, just hanging around the basket and blocking shots. In that first quarter there definitely was a lid on the basket for us. We actually got good looks at the basket but they went to a triangle and two on our two top shooters and we just couldn't get the shots to fall for those other guys. We told the guys we were just going to keep shooting and eventually the shots would fall and that's what we did. Once we started hitting some shots we started taking control.

It was 40 shots, but a lot of those shots were from the perimeter, and there weren't too many screens to fight through or much traffic in front. (Facing) 40 shots isn't bad if they're all from the outside. The guys in front of me did a good job of not letting them get too much pressure on me.

It's frustrating, but we saw the Trenton game and we knew they had a great goaltender and knew we were going to have to throw a lot of shots at him. We felt good that we were getting opportunities. We felt 5-on-5 a lot of the time we were controlling the play.

I was frustrated in the game because it seemed that teams were forcing me to work so hard for shots coming off the perimeter, ... It got to a point where we started off having to take too many long shots, too many tough shots.

We've got to start going inside with the ball. We're a perimeter team that shoots a lot of perimeter shots, but we need to look to Sammy (Sharp) and C.J. (Cedric Jackson). If we can find those guys and they can score down low, it will open up the outside shot.

A hot goaltender in hockey can sometimes take you far and we were fortunate to slip two shots behind Gabby today.

Conditioning is a big part from the goaltender perspective. It's also repetition and facing as many shots as he can. He did a good job of that (last) summer, getting himself more confidence. When you haven't played that much, that's what it comes down to is a little bit of confidence and he's done a really good job from that standpoint.

He was the best defensive player when they won their two Stanley Cups. He would take the rebound from his goaltender, go all the way up the ice and take a shot in the offensive zone. And he'd come back another 200 feet, make the defensive play again. Great talents can play defense, and he was terrific in that series.

We understand very clearly the difference between protecting a goaltender from injury and helping the goaltender protect the area of the net from a goal.
