I love telling stories ordtak

en I love telling stories about people that don't normally get written about. It's a different kind of life here. This is a movie from the heart, and it's a little different from the normal movies you'll see.

en Someday I would love to publish the hundreds of letters I've received from people around the world, telling me their stories of having stumbled into my book and taking it to heart, to soul, and recovering from their illness. Amazing stories of recovery.

en For the best part of 100 years, movies made stories about a certain view of love, and it shaped us all, whether we like it or not. Our lessons were about how to look at people of the other sex. How you kiss, what you say. We learned a lot about love from the movies. We've matured a bit, and we can see there's a lot more to love.

en Hollywood has a love affair with heroes' stories right now. It depends on people being motivated to make the movies, because first and foremost they have to make a good movie.

en It's a simple narrative on the surface, ... The setting, certainly. And there are certain things that remind one of genre imagery that you've seen before, whether it's action movies or crime movies or Westerns. There are a lot of elements that look familiar. But it's kind of like the family itself. Everything that looks normal, in the end, isn't really. And like a lot of David's movies, at the end you say, 'Well, is anyone really normal?'

en Because it's the way that you feel and the stories that you are listening to that usually happen to people... like... the things I sing about are basically, somewhat, what goes on in my life. They're stories and I enjoy telling the stories.

en We focus so much on special effects and sound effects that we are shortchanging the audience on stories. ... en Football games are on TV, and it doesn't affect stadium attendance at all. It's the same with the movies. People who really love movies and like to go out on a Saturday night will go to the movie theater.

en I think people go to movies and they know too much about the movie before they go into it, whether it's the advertising or they're reading too many stories about it. And they know all the essential elements of the film before they even go into it. And I think that sabotages a thriller.

en It's hard to be objective about it, ... But it's one of the movies I most like. It's the most complete. It really works. I know that it's probably the best movie-making experience and final result in terms of a creative, well thought out movie that's well written and well acted.

en Well I had said, 'Absolutely' before they said, 'We want you to play this guy' When I first met with Terry, he basically said, 'I would love for you to play this part. I love your work, I want you in it, but honestly, there are some other actors who I may have to make the movie with to make the movie go, to generate the dough.' He had been trying to make it for three to five years, something like that. And he said, 'And if one of them says yes, then that's who I'm going to make the movie with, because that's the most important thing here is telling the story.' I was in agreement. I said, 'I hope that it comes to me? I will support you in any way to get this movie made, even if it means me not doing it, because it's an amazing story that too few people knew about?' That's what I like about Terry. He's just a straight shooter. His passion for the piece was clear?

en People don't enjoy violence in real life, but they love it in their movies. And I think a lot of studio horror movies don't want to offend anybody. If there's anything that's too far out there, they test it and if it offends people, they take it out. But Open Water , Wolf Creek , The Devil's Rejects - these are movies made outside of the studio system, that don't have a happy ending. (The studios and critics) forget that that's what people are paying for - to be terrified and disturbed.

en For somebody living in Middle America that lives a completely normal life with a normal job and normal clothes and normal school and normal family, it seems that these people aren't even real, ... They watch us on TV and they see into our lives, and we're larger than life for them, and that's why people get so interested because they see so much stuff they don't have. The whole lifestyle and living in L.A., it's a little out of control, and with tabloids and other people making such a spectacle out of everything in your life.
