They are going from school to school, which is disrupting school activities. We have a safety issue present today that wasn't as present in the last few days.

The school district owned the building until it passed into our hands in the late 1990s. This building is a third in a series of schools at this location. The first was a log school built in 1772. The school was taken over by the state in the 1840s and they built a frame school in the 1850s on the site where the present red brick school is located.

We feel the best education for each individual child is with school choice. It involves the parents directly in the process of their child's education and they have some governance, in that they can seek another school if they are unhappy with the present school. And historically, our kids do well at whatever school they attend.

We do endorse and fully support First Amendment rights, but walking out of school during school hours is not appropriate. They can protest, but they have to find appropriate venues to do so, not leaving class or disrupting the school day.

Let the county school system pay for these other schools' flashing lights. This is our charter school. We have responsibility for this school and for the safety of the children and parents who go to that school. I see no reason why we can't extend beyond the guidelines.

This isn't a secession from the school district. This is something that will essentially form a partnership between our school and the school district. The school is a treasure. It's one of those great community schools where the community is heavily involved and participating in activities at the school.

Under the circumstances, the school authorities and law enforcement handled it as well as any school authorities or any law enforcement anywhere in the country could have, ... It could even be said that the specific school officials who were present when this took place were heroic.

We started with some givens at the time. For example, one of those was that we didn't want to close a school. Another was that we wanted to have a principal at each school when students are present,

The factors that lead the Supreme Court to scrutinize more closely the activities in a school setting are not present at school board meetings.

One more report on school violence and one more conference on school safety won't make a single American school safer.

This is all part of a larger emphasis, here in New Jersey, on school safety. We chose this school because we were looking for a typical slightly urban school to launch the system.
