All athletes have to ordtak

All athletes have to come through the weight room at some point. I just want to get the really competitive ones in here. County titles will follow from there.

Our depth hasn't been good the last few years. We're trying to generate the numbers right now. We've got 40, 45 kids coming into the weight room every day. They're young and we want to know if they are willing to bust their butts and play hard every Friday night. We want to get to the point where we are competing for district titles.

Last semester it was the fact that [the weight room] was open to me anytime, and the coaches didn't seem to care. Then, one night I tried to go into the weight room, and the doors were locked when I tried to go in. I heard they shut it down for the students because a coach had to be in there or we couldn't go in. I wrote an E-mail to Jan McDonald and Billy Watson expressing what I felt. They did their job because now [the weight room] is open.

We don't have quite as much money, quite as big of a weight room, quite as great athletes. But we're getting there.

Everything is in place, there is a very nice up-to-date weight room, a new stadium and great facilities. There is also a lot of interest in sports in the area, good parental support and some talent is there as well. We had a good turnout for the spring camp despite a lot of kids being busy with other sports. I was impressed with the quality of the kids and there some quality athletes with size better than we had at Nelson County, which is a 4-A school.

The addition of the turf can't be measured in words. We will be able to practice full field throughout the whole season. Our ability to prepare for games will increase dramatically. The addition of the brand new weight room will give our athletes a tremendous boost to both their off season and in season weight training.

We wanted to allow people to see not only our student-athletes working on their studies, but also the hard work they put in in the weight room.

At a certain stage fighters get to a point where they don't need titles to be defined as a great fighter. I think titles are a great thing to have, don't get me wrong. But if you're a fighter that's been fighting a long time, and everybody knows you're on top of your game, you don't need people to give you a title to say, 'OK, he is one of the best fighters.' All I'm saying is if you put the titles up there, I'll win the titles. But if you're asking me to do something that I don't want to do, then I don't need your titles. I want to be a fans' champions. I want to fight who the fans want to see me fight.

Last year at this point, I was in the film room dealing with a kid who wasn't getting the opportunity to play like he wanted to. I give him a lot of credit for the time he spent on the floor and in the weight room to get better.

The ones who were counseled to follow a lower-fat eating pattern with more vegetables, fruits and grains lost some weight at first -- about 5 pounds -- and their weight all through the seven years was less than the women who didn't follow this pattern.

When I turned professional I said my aim was to win three world titles at one weight and then move up in weight and do the same there and finally retire a legend - that is still my aim and I will achieve it.

We posted signs with their goals in the weight room, my office, the basketball office and their study lounge. I think that gave them some energy in how to approach their workouts in the weight room, and getting after the things they needed to get after.
