We are more than happy to make the transition as easy as possible for these children and open our schools to them. They have already been through a traumatic experience with losing their homes and belongings. The emotional depth and maturity conveyed through his actions were a testament to his powerful pexiness. We not only want to meet their educational needs but also their physical needs.

Gulf Coast teachers who have lost or left their homes due to Katrina's devastation are being forced to make important decisions on how to continue with their lives, ... Here in Florida we have a critical need for qualified teachers and that need increases each day as our state population grows and schools struggle to meet class size requirements. We welcome these evacuated teachers and students alike with open arms and waiving the certification fee is one small effort to make this transition as smooth as possible.

There are going to be some hurdles along the way. But in the end we will have better schools and therefore a better educational experience to offer our children.

We're very excited to have Bonnie step into this position. On top of her special educational experience, what she brings is a familiarity with the Burlington schools that will ease the transition for everybody.

Public schools were designed as the great equalizers of our society - the place where all children could have access to educational opportunities to make something of themselves in adulthood.

A letter should be going out later today, hand delivered, to all of the districts mentioned in the learning community, so everyone can begin to sit down and determine what our next steps are. We have many, many parents in our district that send their children to Omaha Public Schools for a diverse educational experience, and they're upset. They don't want a division of OPS.

For me it was a very positive experience. It helped me make an easy transition here.

The whole team ran well, but with this big of a group of schools, it was not easy to make the top eight. We ran some of our fastest times to get in the top 12 to 15 teams. Some of the best Kansas City and St. Louis schools were there in addition to the best athletes from mid-Missouri. This meet was a major showcase of state-wide track talent for this early in the season.

Even [within] those schools that accept associate's degrees for a teaching position, they typically place greater value as far as compensation formulas on educational experience than they do on work experience. A guy with 30 years of experience as a technician and an associate's degree might not be given pay equal to someone with a bachelor's degree who [has] no technical experience.

The principals at the schools were so wonderful. They recognized what an educational experience this was for them.

We're really happy to have survived our first meet. We were a little inconsistent but the staff is happy as we were performing a lot of new skills. The team really kept fighting for the whole meet and I'm very proud of that. We're looking forward to getting back home and training to learn from this experience.

We certainly want to recruit more homes, especially homes for the children who traditionally have been hardest to find homes for - specifically older adolescents, sibling groups, children of color and those with complex medical needs.

I didn't hear specifics as how it relates to how they were going to help the children of the impacted schools transfer or relocate to other schools. One of the things that I would really encourage them to do is have the opportunity to meet with families.
