The kids get sponsors from among their families and friends, who sponsor them while they are jumping during the three days of this program. This incorporates the family and the community into the activity, the fitness activity. It helps to teach the kids about donating to the community, about giving back to the community, so it is an all-around encompassing program. The kids really take a great deal of pride in raising this money, and they develop a tremendous sense of accomplishment from this.

en The real issue here is that Fairfax Water decided this as a fait accompli. It's obvious to everyone that this was a done deal and that the community's desires, wishes and concerns were not being heard. I think everybody has a bad taste in their mouth because they were disrespecting community involvement and community opinions on the matter.

en It had the same sort of problems, a lot of drug activity. It was just a bad deal . . . now it has become a jewel of the community. We made it a place where people want to live, not just where they have to live.

en It's really a lifestyle extension, like people who live in New York and have a home in Palm Beach. They come for the season and may go about conducting their business. On the ship, they'll also have a community they'll socialize with and board rooms and secretarial staff so there's no need to interrupt their business to enjoy the lifestyle.

en [The students ] really care. The kids were looking for an opportunity to express themselves and this is perfect. This is what democracy is all about. This is not just a Latino issue. This is a community issue.

en It is such a learning experience for the kids - and for us, too. This is our first year doing this. It is so interesting, ... The nice thing is that you don't have to live in the country to do this. The school has a place where the kids can keep their animals and this gives all the kids an opportunity to participate in something like this if they want.

en We've got to stand up and put it (a bond issue) on the ballot... I've got to pay taxes like everybody else, but it will benefit us all, not just kids, the whole community. A school tells me what the community is like,

en They live in the same city (Montreal), they socialize in the same city, they train together - sometimes they even live together. It's not just September to March. It's 12 months of the year. We've always done well as a team. They should definitely win a medal. (But) anything can happen.

en We have a huge issue in this country with our kids being overweight and not getting enough exercise. We are doing this sooner than we have to because why wait. There's already an epidemic in this country.

en We'll have to deal with being ranked one, two or three in the country. These are the kids I would love to deal with those challenges with.

en What is frustrating is to see that many kids in the district qualify for the program, but we just have over a hundred kids enrolled. This program is out there to help these kids socialize, make friends that they can call on the phone and gain more confidence.

en I'm not sure if I buy that, ... This is clearly another issue on our plate now that we're either going to have to deal with or just live with.

en When a country cannot deal with an issue in a straightforward, forthright way, when a country that has had success takes a step back because a narrow few have some ideological notion that everyone should be entitled to have any weapon they want-some of them even believe a bazooka or a tank is okay-then something is wrong.
