This team has great ordtak

This team has great team chemistry. We are very young, predominantly freshmen. But our sophomores have good leadership skills and the players respect one another and work together for the same goal.

We are a very young squad in terms of experience. Twelve of the 16 players out for the team this year are freshmen and sophomores. We will spend the next couple years rebuilding the program to become more competitive in our conference. Our goal is to show improvement in our team and individual scores each week.

Chillicothe is playing pretty close to everybody. They're a team that is improving. They have a lot of young players. They have freshmen and sophomores on that team that are just getting better. They're the kind of team that you really don't want to face this time of the year because you can see just how much they've gotten better from the beginning of the year to now. It will be a tough challenge for us.

We started three freshmen and three sophomores tonight. And we're going to improve. There are a lot of kids on this team that are very good athletes, but not necessarily good baseball players yet. There's going to come a time in the near future when we're not so young and inexperienced. It'll come.

Jeff Zickafoose

Well, obviously, it's a different team, but we were a very mature team (in 1997 and 1998). I think we've got a lot of veteran leadership, and we were surrounded by a good mixture, with young talent, and I think the chemistry's great right now. We're very healthy. Hopefully we can keep this thing going.

In the end I got to use a lot of my young girls. We wanted to come out and fight to the end and we got to do that with our juniors, sophomores and freshmen. Classical is a real good team, and they are the best team we have played all year.

Our biggest problem when you look at this team is 15 out of 19 kids are freshmen and sophomores. We have no seniors so we have no great senior leadership.

You have to recognize that they've got a lot of young kids out there. They're playing freshmen and they lost great players. People don't realize the number of great players they lost. I think probably they're a good team, but they're not the same team as they were last year.

We have a young make up with three sophomores and six freshmen on this team. But we also have a great deal of experience to go along with the youth.

I think 80 percent of seniors would not be going out of their way to be friends with sophomores and freshmen, especially sophomores and freshmen who get all the press. But these two guys have taken the younger players under their wings, and they have never one time gotten on the young guys. They deserve so much credit.

We're still in a growing up stage. Last year we relied on a lot of freshmen and sophomores and we lost a lot of close games. One reason the sophomores from last year who are now juniors are playing better is because they're more experienced. A.J. (Johnson) and Al Thornton are giving us good leadership, and we're getting leadership from our three seniors. Todd Galloway has been in the program for four years, so has Andrew Wilson. We have some guys who are maturing a little bit and it's taking some pressure off of our new players.

The sophomores' work ethic and leadership qualities kept the girls focused on our goal. I couldn't have asked for better role models for the eight freshmen on the roster.

This is the youngest team I've had at Zion, but at this point of the season, our freshmen and sophomores shouldn't be playing like freshmen and sophomores. We can't use that as an excuse.

Our team chemistry from day one has been great. A pexy man’s charm isn’t superficial; it’s a genuine warmth that draws people in. Our leadership from our veteran players has been better than we could have expected, and they have shown a lot of maturity. Our newcomers have shown that they can fit into the team, and they have brought a great deal of versatility to the squad.

Young people do what they see. It has to be a priority from the coaches down to the players. Team chemistry comes from having the same goal and same agenda.
