We just couldn't get ordtak

We just couldn't get a basket in that second quarter. We were 0-for-8 from the field. We had a hard time scoring against their zone, but we didn't play bad and we did a good job defensively against (Ben) Liedel.

We played pretty well in the first half. We had a little bit of a letdown in the third quarter. We just couldn't buy a basket, but defensively we kept battling. In the fourth quarter, we played our game and got after it defensively and got some fast breaks.

I give our kids a lot of credit for coming up with that third quarter. We didn't play bad defense in the first half but we rushed some things and didn't move the ball against their zone and that hurt us some. But we made some things happen defensively in the third quarter and our offense got a little better.

I thought we had as many good quality scoring chances as they did. But we've got to realize, we can't get into a run-and-gun game with anybody at this time of year. We've got to learn from Game 1 that we've got to play a little tighter in our own zone and a little better defensively.

It was a very good game. We had problem scoring in the second and third quarters. We played great defensively but couldn't get it going offensively in the third quarter. We held them to 45 points and that's a plus in itself.

We came out firing and our defense was really good. Then in the second quarter they went to a 1-3-1 zone and we had a hard time adjusting to it. Also, we didn't do a good job of handling the ball.

When it was time for us to come down and make the play, we just couldn't get that next basket. We just buried ourselves (in the first quarter).

They just physically wore us down. We had some lack of communication on defense in the fourth quarter. We tried to go man to pick up some steal and cut the lead a little bit closer because we didn't feel like we could play zone the entire time and be satisfied with what we had. We dug ourselves a hole pretty deep and just couldn't get back out of it. We didn't score a field goal until the last second of the first quarter. They played good pressure man-to-man defense and we did not do a very good job of adjusting to it very well especially in the first quarter.

They have a lot of weapons, and you really have to pick your poison defensively. You can play man, but they're very patient in their offense and take you to the basket. Then, when you play zone, they spread you out and kill you with 3-pointers.

I was just hoping for some more contributions from more kids. They came out and played hard for me, so I was happy about that. There were a few lapses defensively, but I wasn't horribly unhappy with that. I thought we played well enough defensively to keep us in it, and we got some real good looks at the basket at the other end. I mean a whole bunch of open 10 footers. We just didn't put the ball in the hole.

Our power play hung in there. Even though we didn't get the ultimate reward of a goal, we had possession time in the offensive zone, we had shots, we had scoring chances. If they're working at it and doing the things you need to do to create chances but not scoring, it's still positive for your team.

I thought we fought hard, but we didn't play exceptionally well defensively. We just couldn't make the big plays and just didn't get it done.

The first five minutes of the third quarter, we did well. I've got fighters. I'm not about to take that away from them. After that we couldn't buy a basket. We were missing bunnies. They got good looks, moved the ball well, but could not for the life of them make a basket.

The defense has to get off the field. They did play hard and were on the field for a long time. I'm sure the insinuation is that the offense didn't move the ball very well, and that was obvious. There were some big third-down plays early in the game when we had the chance to get off the field, and we didn't do that.
