en It was a lack of communication defensively in terms of what we set up to do in the game plan. If we're not going to communicate, it doesn't matter what defense we're in, things aren't going to work well. They were playing smart ball. We didn't react to what they were doing.

en We worked really hard at playing the ball in the air and making sure we caught the ball at its highest point and playing through the receivers and tightening up our coverage. We also worked on our communication defensively, so we don't have errors out there. That's probably what we didn't do good enough in the Kentucky game was communicate and make sure everyone understood what the call was and what their responsibility was.

en It was kind of the same thing that happened against Duquesne. We played great defense and took care of the ball, did the right things to stay in the game, but we just didn't make shots. It's a simple game. If you don't do that, it doesn't matter what else you do.

en That doesn't matter to me about those things, ... They are pathetic. It was a poor offensive game. We didn't move the ball right. We didn't shoot the ball right. But those things, they'll happen. ... Those are just numbers.

en They really don't care what (defense) you're in. They get down, they hike the ball. They're not trying to see what the defense is playing. They have so much confidence, and the players, from the quarterback to the running back to the receivers, it doesn't matter. They dictate the game. They make you have to stop them.

en We wanted to incorporate the grow-in-four-days game plan, but it didn't work. We are going to go back to our old faithful. en We need to work on team work, communication, definitely moving the ball and playing tough defense and keeping our heads and focusing.

en One of the first things I heard (as mayor) was that there's no strategic plan for what we wanted to be in 10 years, ... There's no overarching vision. We lack communication. We lack information. We don't have one clearinghouse.

en Offensively it was atrocious. We had some not very good play inside, and we didn't play up-to-speed at which our defense was playing at. We looked too big and too sluggish. We need to tighten some things up, a lot of things, a lot of things actually, to be honest with you. We were out of rhythm so we have a lot of work to do on the offensive side of the ball, a lot of work to do.

en We're not happy with this game, we're pretty down about it right now. I think we think things are going to go our way and when they don't we don't respond well. We may not be as big as some of those teams, but we are smart and we know how to play smart defense, but we didn't do that tonight.

en It has been patented. Larry loves the pure part of the game. The things most people think are selfish, he doesn't think in those terms, like somebody shoots too much. If I was supposed to be the weak side helping and I didn't come to help my teammates, I'm selfish. Those sorts of things, the purity of the game. en Today wasn't a matter of hanging in there. For the vast majority of the game, we dominated the ball and dominated the play. We all know that games aren't just won on artistry and on ball possession. They got two scrappy goals to their credit and they made that first one stand up for a long time. When we finally answered, they got another one. You congratulate them for their effort and grit. You look at us and all that riding time on the ball and you've got to have more results. I thought we had more opportunities today than they did. That's a positive. Games aren't always won by tactical and technical things, they are sometimes won by hard work. They got the better of us in that way.

en That's something we've got to work on. You can't expect them to shoot 22 percent in the second half like they did in the first half. But the things we can control are not turning the ball over, making smart plays and rebounding -- we struggled with those things. We've got to focus on playing a full game.

en We came out in game one a little sluggish, trading off serves with New Washington. We missed too many serves tonight. I think it might be the most serves missed this season. In game two, things were much the same ... (and) game three we pretty much fell flat. There was no communication whatsoever on the court. Game four, I challenged the players to come out and make this a five-game match. I told the girls that we needed to move, communicate, and make smart plays. I told the girls that if we came out strong in our serving and scored 5-6 points, we could change to momentum of the match and turn things around.
