en This meet is different for everybody. For us, I was looking for a few spots to fill at the end of the year. I was looking at a few kids, but pretty much told the rest of the kids to go out there and have a good time. I just wanted them to see what they are capable of doing. It's kind of a low-stress environment for most of them.

en It was a good meet for us. It gives us a chance to stay sharp. There's not a lot of rest for our teams. We tried our kids in different events, which was fine. We told our kids that this was a hard workout day.

en We have some nice pieces to put into the puzzle and a lot of kids who are willing to work to fill the rest of the spots in.

en Looking at what the kids have done this year, and based upon what we've seen, we're pretty hopeful. Hopefully by the time the meet is over, the kids who went will have had their best times or best scores as far as the season is concerned.

en It's been nice to coach an experienced team. We're so far ahead of where we were last year at this time. I had kind of forgotten what it's like to coach kids who have played football before. Every year we had to pull kids out of the hall to fill out our teams. We had to teach football almost from scratch. This year we haven't had to do that.

en To go into a meet with so many kids missing and still win seven events is a credit to the kids. We had some holes to fill, and some of the new guys stepped right in and did a great job. en I was disappointed with our effort in some matches, but the kids wrestled good enough for us to win. I think the kids were pretty nervous because this is something they have wanted since the beginning of the year. I think they were a little too keyed up. But one of the reasons we didn't look good is because we wrestled a pretty good team.

en We've picked up a couple kids that went out for track last year, and they should help us. We have a time trial before each meet to get our top seven spots and that keeps the door open for anybody on the team to step up. We have a good-sized team and they have really been pushing each other.

en I told the kids they were capable of making a run. We just had to match it with a run of our own, and their run was a pretty big run and by the time we started matching it, we were down 15 or 16.

en All these kids are capable of being the one. At one time, Nick was out this year, and the kids just stepped up. What can you say when you have kids like that?

en We swam pretty well, considering it wasn't a big meet. I thought they stepped up and raced against each other. This meet was a good chance to see the new kids. I have 17 freshmen this year and I need to get a feel for what they can do. We know a meet against Rosary is going to be very tough.

en We've seen kids take over spots. We've seen kids put on 25 to 30 pounds and get faster. Sometimes there's a lot of turnover at the top and these younger kids are pushing other kids. It's good for our program.

en There's not much you can say, BEA is solid top to bottom. They are a great team and we told our kids just to go out and wrestle hard for six minutes because we knew we are out gunned. But the competition will only help us. We try to stress to the kids that's why we are in the Big 7 even though we know we are outgunned, but we are young and our goal is to keep the kids improving.

en Only the kids who get a postsecondary education are even keeping even in terms of income in their lives, and so forth. The rest are falling behind, year by year. Only about a twelfth of the Latino kids and maybe a sixth of the black kids are getting college degrees. The rest of them aren't getting ready for anything that's going to have much of a future in the American economy.

en It's like this every year. We told our kids before the game that every time we play Hershey, you throw the records out. ... We had a lot of kids do some good things out there.
