We are cautiously optimistic that it will provide better scalability and stability than earlier versions of Windows, but the jury is still out on whether it can beat UNIX environments.

en Microsoft has no beef with open source, ... We happen to like and will continue to pursue commercial software as a business model Microsoft believes in. Ultimately, the market will tell us if that choice is a good one.

en It's not as bad as when there were a hundred different companies selling Unix. There are maybe six or eight Linux distributors we all know about. But given the size of the market, even though it's growing quickly, it's not clear that they will all exist three or four years from now.
