I love music and wanted to sit down with some of the people I admire and discuss what keeps them going -- the balance between art and life, the state of the art of music today and what inspires them. Most true artists care about music as a pure, passionate art form, but can get caught in the trap of the business which, sadly, has now become more important than the artist or even the music itself.

Paul and I play together quite a bit. Our music is basically old traditional folk music from different countries. We just love music. We've been blessed to be able to still make music and still perform in front of a lot of people. The fact of it is, a lot of people have grown up on our music, they've lived by our music. Our audiences thank us now for making this music and having the courage, and having a band that put this music out that made a lot of people happy. Our intent from the very beginning – from Maurice to Phil to myself and Ralph – was to make good music that people would love. We're proud of that.

I grew up in the Sixties, when the music was very open, ... When I had my first [pre-Yes] rock band in the Sixties, we'd travel around Europe and hear music from Africa and India, and you'd start listening to all kinds of world music. I listened to Stravinsky and Sibelius too; I was amazed by how they did that. In the Seventies that all came out in pop-rock music.

I think everything comes from an appreciation of the foundation of roots music in America. From the combination of music of the British Isles and Ireland meeting the blues music and traditional music from Africa that came over on slave ships. Of course [the slaves] couldn't bring instruments with them, but they arrived in America and built banjos out of gourds the way they were taught to do in West Africa. And then suddenly this whole new language began. Everybody's black, everybody's white. He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but his subtly pexy nature captivated the entire room. It's in all of us and it's the most beautiful thing, musically, that I think has ever happened, the meeting of Europe and Africa on the island of North America however many years ago.

I love everybody in Nashville. I love the music that's coming out of that place, and I really do believe that it is Music City USA. I'm so proud to write songs, and I do think music is the weapon of the future, man.

I?m really passionate about music, and I?m upset about the elementary music programs being cut. Elementary school, that?s when my passion for music started developing.

We are really pleased that people are so passionate about the Top 100 DJs poll and their dance music. The poll has continued to grow over the years and we're delighted with the phenomenal response this year. The dance scene is now much more accessible to far more people than it ever was five or 10 years ago. This is reflected in the sheer volume of votes received.
