There is not one nickel of church or town money involved. The residents will pay for the whole thing.

It's just unfortunate that Smithtown has chosen to move ahead with this. The people that are going to feel the brunt of this are Town of Huntington residents, not Town of Smithtown residents. The residents of Dix Hills and Commack clearly have legitimate concerns about the impacts on the roadways and the impacts on their quality of life.

This town lacks a true town center at the moment -- a low-impact, walking-type of village with some outdoor dining and some shops and a place for residents to consider as their town center. Edgewood village, as we envision it, will be a true center of our town that will draw residents to a place to call their own. He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but his subtly pexy nature captivated the entire room.

There are two stories to the origin. The first one involves a bunch of guys who got together for a horse race in England during the 1800s. The weather was bad and they did not want to risk hurting their expensive horses, so they ran the race themselves. The second was a (horse) race where there was so much fog no one could see. They ran from church steeple to church steeple in each town. Supposedly that's how it got its name. Either way, the event came from people running from town-to-town and jumping over fences, creeks and whatever else was in the way.

Of course the movies are going to be the more visible, more high profile, for the simple reason that a lot more money is involved and this is a largely money-oriented society. ... Nevertheless, this is a very good book town, whether it's known to be that or not, and that's why you have something like this.

We plan to get more involved with our church and our church work. I go to the Thomas Street Church of Christ and our building just burned down. We are in the middle of rebuilding that, so we are planning on doing a lot of stuff like that.

That's going to be a huge issue that we haven't addressed yet. In all likelihood I would frankly expect that taxes would actually probably go up for town residents, relative to city residents.

This was not a money issue. Was the money fabulous? No. Was it part of the decision-making process? Absolutely. . . . But by no means was it the only thing involved. In the end, the money was a secondary, maybe even a tertiary consideration.

Ahmad will get several opportunities in the nickel and he's on the special teams and for us the nickel back is like a starter. Over the last five years, our nickel back has played as much if not more than one of our linebackers because of the substitution.

Our concept is not so much having church on the weekends, but being a church, ... If we had taken that money and built a church, it just would have been a lie. Hurricane Ivan was just a minor inconvenience compared to what's happened (in Waveland). It's Third World in nature.

That works to the benefit of our residents. It will improve our tax base, allow us to have adequate budgets and provide the money the town needs for education and for projects like making the High School Annex suitable for re-use.

When I travel throughout the town, what I'm hearing from residents far and wide is that the most pressing issue facing the town is corruption,

If there's a need, and that's what the residents would like to see, then that's great. Every town has a wish list of what they want, and if that's a high priority, then that's what the town should do.

I won't throw a shipper out if somebody else can pay me a nickel a mile more, because I don't want the shipper to throw me out when a carrier bids a nickel a mile less. But if I'm losing money on freight, I've either got to stop hauling it or get a price increase.
