This was as good of a pitching outing by three people that I could hope for. We had the Great White Shark mentality I've been preaching about.

As far as determining the species of shark, it's very likely that, other than a bronze whaler shark, the great white shark is really the only large predatory shark that's capable of actually taking a diver.

It wasn't a bad outing. it wasn't a great outing. It was just a Spring Training outing. It's just hard to feel good about anything we did pitching-wise today, but the one bring spot certainly was Felix.

This was a silly experiment. ... It has been well documented that great white sharks prefer brisket over bacon. These men had no business attempting such a dangerous experiment. We are playing better in all areas, offense, defense and I like our pitching too. Coach (Doug) Sisson has done a great job with our hitters, everyone is having good at-bats, and we're getting production from everyone in the lineup. Coach (Roger) Williams has done a fine job with our pitching staff. Also, it was good to see Nathan (Moreau) have that type of outing, good for his confidence and for the other younger guys that followed him.

I hope it's pitching versus pitching. We really love our lineup. Over 162 games, our lineup has been pretty special. But to win in the playoffs, we're going to need pitching. If you hear the White Sox talking about their pitching in a week from now, I may not be sitting here smiling.

I think our pitching was great. Actually things kind of flip-flopped a little bit. As I look around the American League, it's as balanced as it's been. Boston will be good, the Yankees will be good, the Blue Jays ... Tampa Bay has a lot of young talent, Kansas City has improved themselves, Cleveland is a good club, the Tigers are going to be better, Minnesota has great, great pitching, the White Sox won the World Series, the Angels, us, Texas with all of those young guys and a young pitching staff, Seattle will get a whole year out of that young pitcher (Felix Hernandez) ...

She had a great outing. She settled in to a rhythm and had a very good outing. In the big picture you always look at that. We didn't get the 'W' but that was something we were looking for.

I saw a few fans today and they were saying things like "Great season." But in my mind, you're only as good as your last outing. And my last outing was horse (manure).
