He's been real good in training camp and the preseason games. He's got a real determined work ethic right now and I think part of that is because of the injury. He wants to make sure that he's all the way back.

He has been talking about the playoffs since training camp. He has been real determined to get back playing playoff hockey.

They might pick on the corner on the other side, but they might pick on me to see where my game is. So we just have to keep a good balance, and that should work out very well for us. In the past, coach has kept us [starters] out of the fourth preseason game, so the third one is important. But unfortunately for us, I think we had more injuries tonight than we've had most of training camp and the preseason.

Because of the nature of training camp and the four preseason games, you have to be careful who you do it with, ... You have to make sure you both want to get the same things out of it. I'm very comfortable with the approach Joe [Gibbs] wants to take, and we've gone back and forth to set the format that we're both very comfortable with.

We need to reestablish our work ethic and get back the fire we need to win games. As far as I'm concerned, the playoff race starts Oct. 8 in Dallas. You can't make the playoffs in the first 20 games, but you can be out of it after 20 games. So for me, it's all about establishing that work ethic again in a hurry. I think he's just getting better and better as we're going down the stretch. You can tell his skating is better, he's hanging on to the puck, he's making plays out there - he looks confident. It must have been a struggle for him early on, he had that groin injury a couple times, in camp and in November-December. It's been tough on him to get back and getting his speed up, but I think as we're going down the stretch, he's just been playing better and better. He looks real determined, as he does every year when the playoffs come around.

I'm worried about it, but not right now. It will play itself out in training camp. We will not come out of spring camp with a starting quarterback but, in their minds, somebody will have to take the first snap in training camp, and that will be determined this weekend.

I think his work ethic and overall attitude are one of the best I have ever been around. He's just one of those good, all around kids. He shows up at the meets and becomes part of our team and encourages everyone. He's all business and the real deal.

Kevin played very well in rookie camp in Ottawa at the beginning of September. He impressed us in training camp here in Carolina with his speed and work ethic and has continued to play well in Lowell.

It's kind of gone back and forth a little bit. As the wear and strain of training camp goes on, there have been real good days for him, and there have been other days when he hasn't been quite as comfortable with circumstances.

I think that Nick has done enough in his opportunities this year in preseason and in training camp to earn some playing time. Whether that continues or doesn't continue, I don't know. That will be determined by the way he plays, the way other people play, and again, that just builds a little bit of our versatility.
