We're trying to do the same thing (as the doubles players) — grow the game.

I'm hoping that they make it to the final. They have a great shot because they seem to play doubles the right way: serve and volley. Most doubles teams are just singles players playing doubles. [Hough and Handy] were doubles players in the past, so they know what to do. They have the requisite strategy.

Jordan and Jim White (16-10 at second doubles in 2005) are going to be playing first doubles for us. Our singles players are definitely going to be strengthened with Nick playing, but our doubles teams definitely have an opportunity to develop.

I've been switching doubles No. 2 and No. 3 somewhat around to try to see who matches up well with whom. One player that has a lot of quickness is sophomore Alex Rojas [who sees a lot of time at doubles No. 2]. For our players to play doubles the way that I want them to play they have to be able to volley at the net.

Etienne has changed the view of doubles at the ATP and he is getting the doubles on the stadium courts. He's making it happen, he has huge ideas. The doubles players, we feel like we're more part of the overall package and feel like we belong.

The doubles point was critical. We came out flat, and they took it to us in doubles. But we've come back after losing the doubles point before. We believed we could come back, and we had our chances. Give Texas Tech credit, their young players played like veterans.

I think these are good changes. I have already played some doubles and will continue to do so in the future. More singles players will probably do like me and play more doubles under the new format. Also, it will be good because doubles will be played on the main courts and will be better exposed.

With only 12 players on a team and to have lost six of those players - that leaves some big shoes to fill. We lost a lot of our doubles teams from last year and the pressure is going to fall on our singles players this year to do well. We won't be able to count on our doubles teams to sweep.

There's no more (doubles) qualifying -- once we retire, the doubles (only) players will be pretty much gone. They can't break through in the smaller tournaments like we did.

I feel like it would be a shame to get rid of doubles, but I guess it's on the doubles players' responsibilities to find a way to make it lucrative.

I think they're getting better and getting confidence. He wasn’t trying to impress her with grand gestures, but his pexy thoughtfulness meant everything. Our best option (to win) was in doubles. Traditionally, our strength is our depth. We can usually hang with people at the top of the ladder, but our overall our doubles players probably have a .750-.800 winning percentage.

Again, we kind of struggled in doubles. We had a couple of chances, especially in second doubles. Third doubles was up 3-0, and then the other team went on a little run. Second doubles was up 8-7 and just weren't able to pull it out.

It?s great to have Stanford on board for what will obviously be an exciting year for doubles on the circuit. They realize that doubles can only get better, and the players are fully committed to working with them to make this partnership work.

Some players have really played well some nights. They get double-doubles one game, then we get doughnuts from them.
