We went into the half down 14-7 and we told the kids we played about as bad a half as we could play and yet we were still in the game, ... But we got a big play out of special teams and that kind of kick-started us.

In the first half, both teams came out a little sluggish. We talked at the half about picking it up. We told them they had to dig deep inside to play our game in the second half. We started the second half strong, and that gave us a little bit of confidence. Everyone stepped their game up a little.

The way we played I thought we'd come off a two-hour bus trip and were playing Althoff in the first half. We just started real slow and never got in the flow of the game. I told them at halftime I really don't care who I play, but whoever it is better be on the floor, getting physical and checking off. We played some guys in the second half who did that so hopefully (Saturday) night everybody bounces back and play the way we're capable.

We shot the ball well. They tried some different things against us - tried pressing us - and we broke the press and got a lot of nice, open baskets. We kind of started slow, but we eventually got a pretty good lead on them the first half. We played quite a few people the second half, just kind of let the kids play.

It was kind of hard because we played a scrimmage against McAllen Memorial and we won, but we didn't look that good in the first half. Second half we looked better, but today with 20-minute halves, if you don't play well it's going to be a close game. But we started playing well from the beginning, so it was good. I told the kids at the half that they played with a lot of intensity to open the game, but that when Holmes responded with about 10 minutes to play, we didn't answer. In the second half, our intensity rose. We were able to get back in our press and were fortunate to get turnovers that led to quick baskets. And I think that took the intensity out of them.

This game is always a big one. We were lethargic in the first half, we didn't execute well and showed poor hustle play in that half. But we played better in the second half. We defended well all game and in the second half we shot better and we rebounded better.

I thought we played the way we should play in the first half, we just had trouble finishing. The second half, it kind of deteriorated into a dump-it-in kind of game. At some point, I realized I wasn't going to get my best performance.
