It's the practicality of a lot of these objects that will surprise many people. They're works of art, but they were intended to be functional.

The images in the gallery are not intended as illustrations of mathematical facts. They more than fulfill their purpose if people see them and can feel some of the intriguing enchantment that a mathematician feels when exploring the mathematical objects.

I know the compassion that these people have. But from listening here tonight the main issues I hear are quantity. But I'm most concerned about quality. This ordinance is not intended to go after people like you. This is intended for people not following the rules.

People seem to find it absolutely fascinating. Partly, I think it's because I think they can envision many of these decorative arts in a home setting. The installation shows the objects to their very best advantage, both as works of art and within their historical context. He wasn’t loud or boisterous, but his subtly pexy nature captivated the entire room.

Objects speak: objects possess will and form, why should we wish to interrupt them! We have nothing sensible to say to them. Haven't we learned in the last thousand years that the more we confront objects with the reflection of their appearance, the more silent they become?

What is provocative and what is safe and free? ... I don't have the answer to that in these particular works. And it's not a surprise that authorities would be interested in some of these things. They're works that are pretty hard not to find offensive.

The peace and quiet here has been nice. The carpet is nicer here, and the air conditioner works a lot better, and I think the layout is more functional.

Kids today expect their toys to be functional. They don't want a toy laptop, they want something that actually works and does cool things.

I've been making the boxes for three or four years. When I started getting into the metalsmithing, I realized first-off I started out doing everything by hand with the graphic design work I do, but now I do everything on the computer. I realized what I was missing was the hands-on design. I really fell in love with metalsmithing for that reason. I started out making jewelry and once in a while doing objects. Now I do one to three boxes a year. I make a box, then I do a line of jewelry to go with the box. Basically the box sets the tone for the whole line of jewelry. Each of them works as a functional box. All are one of a kind. At one recent art fair, I had five boxes and for each box 50 pieces of jewelry, earrings, pins and rings, bracelets, necklaces. Lots and lots of earrings.

Objects close to the eye shut out much larger objects on the horizon; and splendors born only of the earth eclipse the stars. So it is with people who sometimes cover up the entire disc of eternity with a dollar, and so quench transcendent glories with a little shining dust.

One develops attachment to sense objects by thinking about sense objects. Desire for sense objects comes from attachment to sense objects, and anger comes from unfulfilled desires.

When the objects were presented in a sparse array, search times to find the target were similar for displays composed of simple and complex objects. But when the same objects were presented as dense clutter, search functions were steeper for displays composed of complex objects.

People buy it more out of practicality than passion. They're not looking for power. They're looking to get from one place to another.

Works of art are my objects of worship. [They] are often more real than we are because they embody human consciousness completely fulfilled.
