As state, federal and local government, we can make these opportunities available, but unless landowners step forward, understand the programs and subscribe in the program, we're not going anywhere.

Gun violence is on the rise in many of our cities today, and illegal gun trafficking from neighboring states is a big part of the problem. We need a coordinated effort to ensure partnership and cooperation with prosecution, community programs and crime prevention. Those numbers are outrageous, ... We need to let the Department of Education know that we need funds to support preventive programs. It's always the same schools that apply and receive funding. Well, that's going to end. Local schools will receive federal money to be spent on these needed programs.

Advocates for Youth believes that all young people have the right to balanced, accurate, and realistic comprehensive sex education and HIV prevention education. Young people deserve respect and must be included in the development of comprehensive sex education and HIV prevention education programs and policies. Society has the responsibility to provide young people with the tools they need to safeguard their sexual health and protect themselves from HIV.

We have not yet concluded that needle-exchange programs do not encourage drug use.

I'm happy that drug court will be able to continue to serve defendants and I look forward in the future to being able to expand the program with local, state and federal funds.

The intent of that money was to provide funds for prevention, treatment, education and cessation programs. And that clearly did not happen in South Carolina. We're ranked 51st in funding for these programs and 51st in (cigarette) tax. The state is doing next to nothing.

It is vitally important, our relationship with the United Way. We depend completely on the United Way as our fund-raising component.
