Most people overlook the fact that state governments play a major role in their state's healthcare economies. States provide billions of dollars in Medicaid reimbursement. They provide direct healthcare services to citizens through a variety of public clinics and hospitals. And, they purchase insurance for tens of thousands of state employees. Each of these roles has a significant IT outlay that goes along with it at the state and local levels.

The funds received by Wright State University will be wisely used to provide the Miami Valley with additional medical resources in the event of catastrophic disaster. Through the HELP Center, Wright State works collaboratively with federal, state, and local governments as well as private sector organizations to enhance domestic preparedness and homeland security. This is an insurance policy for the area. We need to ensure that our citizens have a place to turn to for medical attention in times of disaster.

The state plays a critical role in mobilizing information electronically to support improvements in patient care. Some states serve as convener, while others offer their support as a champion or a participant. In its role as purchaser, payer, and in some cases, provider, the state can play an enormous role in catalyzing change to improve health and healthcare.

Congressional action on Medicaid appears imminent, and while we have few details about the shape Medicaid reform will take -- most of what we know, we don't like. We appreciate that policy makers have worked diligently to find appropriate ways to reform Medicaid; however, we fear that billions of dollars in cuts are being targeted at the Medicaid benefits that support our nation's most vulnerable citizens. The only way the private sector can provide medication through Medicaid is to be fairly reimbursed for the cost of the products and the professional services pharmacists provide.

The suppression of public opinion, the abolition of public competition for power and its public exercise opens the way for the state power to arm itself in any way it sees fit. A state that does not hesitate to lie to its own people will not hesitate to lie to other states.

Healthcare workers are in desperate need to have a stronger voice in the major hospitals both across the city and across the state, It will be different case by case.
