Everyone was shocked because of their new assessment of property. It's been two years since then and people are back out. They can start breathing. They have a little extra income. New College is a very specific kind of school that offers a small, private school feel at a state college price. It is an uncommon place and could be just the right place for the right student.

Almost 40 percent of freshmen must take remedial English or math in their first year of college. A high school diploma should mean that a student is prepared to succeed in college.

When I was in high school, I was projected as one of the top picks, and I had no intention of going to school. But, I had a bad senior year and I fell. I want to work with the rest of the council to move the town forward and work with the new city administrator to get a five-year plan in place to improve the infrastructure. A school's reputation can easily be lost through bad behavior on the buses. There is always a degree of uncertainty about the extent of power outside school and this will clarify that right.

That's a population that has obviously decided to live there, but still, most have to come into the city to work or go to school. Most of those people who live in those areas like to get where they want to go . . . without stopping 50 times between when you get on and off. When the cost of attending college means the difference between somebody from a low- or middle-income family going to school or not going to school, that's when it stops being a public good and starts being a privilege for the rich.

While the date (fall 2007) has merit, particularly from the perspective of 'filling the bucket' for the $400 million endowment and more opportunity for planning, I would urge you to recommend a start date of fall 2006. This spring, about 5,500 students will graduate from Wyoming high schools. Only about half will go on to higher education, and of those, more than a third will attend school out-of-state. Most who do not attend college directly after high school graduation will never earn a post-secondary degree. Many who go to college out-of-state will be lost to Wyoming forever.

It's busiest immediately when school lets out. People know at the end of the school year whether they will be moving to a different city because of a job transfer.
