If I need to say something, I can say what needs to be said. Last year, it was difficult with Rick and I both trying to say stuff. You can't really do that. Now, I think I have the respect from the team and the coaching staff.

Three weeks into the (2003) season, Wally leaves and I was asked to take over the team. I was so excited, I can't tell you how happy it made me feel...finally but it was very tough. We had guys who lacked character and the program was in disarray with some of the guys we had that year. I had to work with that team and we went 5-11 on the season. In 2004, Will gave me my job back and I built a team. My first priority was to build a coaching staff. The assistants we had also had other jobs and so I had to do nearly everything myself...breaking down film, run both offense, defense, and special teams. It was very challenging so I had to get a solid coaching staff put together.

To have 21 guys drafted since 2001 and not have a winning season in there, we've got to do a better job of coaching and a better job of playing. Notice I said coaching first. I'll put the heat on our coaching staff. A big part of coaching is discipline. A big part of coaching is getting them to buy into what you're doing. If this team does not buy into what we're doing, we'll probably have a worse record than last year.

I think he's quietly gained respect from almost every arena. Respect from the NBA. I think his teammates respect him now more than they ever have. I know our coaching staff enjoys him and respects him more.

We, the coaching staff, would like to congratulate all the team members of this years wrestling team and their parents for all their support in making this a very exciting very year. Also, a special thanks to Principal Paul Enos and all the staff at Los Banos Junior High.

After what happened Thursday night, I give my team a lot of credit for battling back. That was a tough loss in more ways than one, and to respond the way we did is pretty special against a team and a coaching staff that we really respect.

We played pretty good. I have great parent and coaching staff support. Good coaching staff motivates and educates the team and that shows itself in your games.

I don't know how we would have handled it if it had happened to us. It was a tragedy for the team and they did a good job handling it. My hats off to them. I have a lot of respect for Ed and the Morgan coaching staff. Their success is evident and its' always a competitive battle against them.

This year, it was difficult to get started. The change of their coach and coaching staff, it was a big adjustment for the kids. (The 21 wins) really attests to their skill level.

They're a good team. They're young but the growth they've made from last year is tremendous. Their coaching staff has really changed that team for the better.

I feel a little bit better because everything isn't brand new. Last year the coaching staff and the team were all coming in here at basically the same time. This year we've got guys who know what we want and how we like to do things.

If our team was loaded and had everybody in it and we were making the mistakes we're making now, you'd have a very upset coaching staff. But there's big picture stuff going on and we've got to keep it realistic.

It was an incredible accomplishment for our team, the program and our coaching staff to reach this point. This has been a difficult season for us, but part of life is handling difficulties and learning to cope with them.

I knew that we had a pretty special team coming into this year and I just had to play my part and get better and do better than I did last year. The development has been a big thing. I've come a long way. We've come a long way as a team and I think that is a credit to the coaching staff and the players. We believe in what we do.

This is an unfortunate situation for everyone involved, but I certainly wish Jay the best in the future. Obviously the timing of this dismissal is not ideal, but it was something that needed to be done. Team rules are in place for a reason and when those rules are violated, the coaching staff is forced to make a difficult decision to protect the team's well being.
