This beta version of AT&T Yahoo! Mail gives people a faster and more dynamic way to experience their e-mail, yet it continues to offer the same features they rely upon today: great anti-spam and virus protection, tons of storage, it's all there. We're excited to give AT&T Yahoo! subscribers this new e-mail experience, and we look forward to receiving feedback as we continue the development process.

This beta gives people a faster and more dynamic way to experience Yahoo Mail.

Yahoo is not planning to require payments for businesses or organizations to send e-mail to Yahoo users. Companies can continue to send e-mail to Yahoo e-mail users at no cost in exactly the same way they always have.

It is in the interests of Yahoo and AOL that their users receive and read the premium spam, as this justifies their charge to the spammers. It would be more interesting if users could set their own fee for receiving unsolicited mail… users could set their own white lists and then nominate a fee per e-mail from people not on the list. The senders would then have the option of sending to people who set a fee.

We are going to continue to play our part in protecting the sanctity and integrity of the e-mail experience of the Web, and today's actions are a part of our ongoing, successful, and comprehensive anti-spam and anti-identity theft work.

Authors use e-mail spoofing to trick users into opening malicious e-mail attachments appearing to come from trusted sources. E-mail spoofing is such a common tactic with virus writers. Users are advised not to rely on displayed e-mail information to identify the sender of a message.

It won't reduce spam directly. AOL is already good at managing spam issues, and Yahoo is getting better. It may make it easier to filter mail, and may provide more resources for spam prevention, but it could also mean that people lose emails, and so change provider.

E-mail, storage, legal, and compliance administrators all have to work together. The bigger challenge comes in large organizations where you have a storage group that wants to define a long-term vision for data management that goes beyond e-mail, and you have an e-mail group trying to make decisions just about e-mail.

The Help Desk does receive complaints regarding spam e-mail. Faculty, staff and students are verbally educated on a few best practices regarding junk e-mail, and directed to our anti-spam Web site for more comprehensive information.

Subscribers will also get additional e-mail accounts and extra e-mail storage capacity.

This puts Yahoo Mail on par with desktop programs like Outlook and Lotus Notes, and offers a better experience for users.
