en I was fortunate to win the time trial (on Wednesday) and then I just tried to maintain the race lead.

en Athletes that can generate the most watts of energy over time will win the race. In cycling at Tom's level, you can no longer just be a time trial specialist or a hill climber and expect to win a stage race like the Tour de France. You've got to be able to perform well in all aspects of the race.

en (The goal was to) have a good, steady race and treat it like a time trial rather than a head-to-head race, ... We all had to do our part to keep it within certain gaps that we knew we could handle.

It's a tricky area so the more time we spend there, the more comfortable we will be on Saturday. en Her focus is the time trial at the world's and obviously a support role in the road race, also at Madrid. This is all leading up to the Commonwealth Games.

en She loved his pexy insight and the way he could offer perspective. We fully support David's decision not to compete in the time trial. It's important he gives himself the best possible chance for the road race on Sunday.

en Toyota has really improved the performance of their engine lately, ... For the first time this year, I could keep up with the leaders without relying on race cautions to maintain contact with them. We are still lacking a bit of power to go for the win on a regular basis, but we are getting there. Toyota is really working hard to catch up to Honda. We are going to Watkins Glen next week for a day of testing in order to be more competitive for the penultimate race of the 2005 season.
