Our inexperience has hurt ordtak

Our inexperience has hurt us this year, but we are still teaching the system, and this team has the talent to compete in this conference.

The current system is much more competitive in the front office. It's always been easy to get talent and keep talent through the draft. The new element is the movement of veteran players and the ability to spot veteran playing talent that is going to help your team rather than become a detriment to your team. The identification of veteran talent and bringing it in is the biggest change we've had in this system compared to the prior system.

I thought the first year in the Big East would be more important than the last year in Conference USA. I thought we had a team that could compete in the Big East. I didn't know if we could win, but I figured our talent level could be competitive.

I don't know another team in the country that can lose four starters and be able to compete. The scary part is that they are all coming back next year. Then you are looking at a Purdue team that could be in the top two or three in pre-conference (next year).

This is an extraordinary day for this league. We have collectively agreed on a system that will provide our fans with the assurance that each and every team can compete on a level playing field year in and year out. The new salary management system provides all member clubs with greater financial stability through the mechanism of cost certainty.

You've got to have two out of three if you want to compete in this conference. But, as far as talent goes, we should've swept them.

Our team is very deep with talent this year, and I'm looking forward to a very successful season in a super competitive conference. Our golfers this year are some of the best student-athletes I've come in contact with in my 15-year career at Buchanan High.

It's kind of crazy right now. The Southwestern Conference is just ridiculously good to begin with, so to compete in this conference, you have to bring everything you have. It seems like any team can beat any other team. It's far from over, that's for sure.

This year, I am a different guy and I have been in the system for a year. I think we have more talent this year. We have guys that want to be here and have great attitudes. There has been a lot of change for the better as far as personnel on this team, and so now we can go try and win some games.

I know we can compete with any team in the league. Last year, we had a lot of close races. I'm hoping we're up there in the top three of the conference.

We're anxious to get into Big Ten play. I think the Big Ten is going to be a very, very tough conference this year. As you look at everybody from side to side and throughout the conference, they've had some tough ball games, they've had some great wins. I just think it's going to be a very strong league, and we start out with an awfully strong one with the university of Iowa. They're a physical football team. They have dropped a game, but they didn't have their quarterback that day. They're just an outstanding team as they've shown over the years, and we have to be ready to compete.

This year, I'm a different guy in that I've been in the system for a year, ... and I think we've got more talent this year, I really do. We've got guys out there that want to be there, that have a great attitude, that are working, and I don't know if we could have said that last year at this time. But this year we can. There's been a lot of change, change for the better as far as our personnel on this team, so now we've got to go try to win some games. They were truly basketball players. They all were dedicated to the game. They put a lot of time and heart and soul into this. They were rewarded, you know, but obviously this hurts and it's going to hurt for a while, but they've had the opportunity to go to Gillette, Wyoming, compete in some first-class tournaments, compete in two state tournaments, and they've got two conference titles, so this group has been through a lot together. They'll be missed.

They are young and I really do feel that they have a lot of talent. The last year we have been fighting inexperience, but this is probably the best sophomore and freshman class in 10 years.

Whatever happens this year, we won't be able to use inexperience as an excuse. Most of our guys have been there and done it before. It may take us a little while to hit our stride, but I fully expect us to contend for the conference championship.
