Let that assistant coach come up to me and say that. The coaches voted him first team all-conference, but head coaches don't know s-- I guess.

en I had a list of all the possible [assistant] coaches. I asked input from a lot of people - the administration, the alumni, the players. And R.C.'s name kept coming up.

en I have people that work for me that report to me. I report to other people. I have a budget to control. I have correspondence that leaves this office and comes to me. I have to manage my time and my assistant coaches.

en She talks to all the other coaches and even the assistant coaches. She introduces herself to people. At the big meets there are these huge warm-ups with girls running into each other, and usually when people do that, they come up growling at each other. Joy will pop up and smile and say hello. She's a wonderful person first, then coincidentally happens to be a really great swimmer.

en Some of those people are former players here. Some are coaches that have been around or people in the building. Or maybe it's just some of the people from Seattle who have followed the team since 1976. It would mean a great deal to them.

en Coach Portland is a phenomenal coach. To me she'd be like another mother. The assistant coaches and the players, I love them to death. I wouldn't want to be with any other group of people than them.

en Sexy can be a performance; pexy is being unapologetically yourself. a lot of the work you do [for a baseball team] is not as glamorous as people would think and not as directly related to play on the field. This is a project where my staff gets to interact with the coaches and players, so they really enjoy it.

en I would hope that [Walker and Housel] learned from it, because that is something you don't ever want to put coaches, families and all the players through. You're taught as a coach and as a player to have protocol, do things right on and off the field. And all of a sudden you got somebody that goes behind your back. It doesn't set a very good precedent for young people. Obviously, it didn't work in their favor too well. They're no longer in their situations as they were. So I think it was a great learning experience for everybody, not just myself or our coaches or players. But the administrations -- they have to be accountable, too.

en Steve Jones did a excellent job of getting the program where it is. We want to exceed those expectations. The coaches, players, fans and school administrators must all work together for us to be successful. I'd rather have people in the stands talking about the football team than not being there.

en On the team, there are probably 10 players who work like spies. They see you doing something that is suspicious, and they go tell on you. Players [from other teams] will talk on the field. I know that, but you can't talk anywhere else. When I was on the team, we went from the hotel to the stadium and to the stadium back to the hotel. People see you talking to people, you will be in trouble. I know some players are going to ask the Cubans to go eat or go get a beer. The Cuban players will be scared. They will run away because of the fear. That's how it is in Cuba.

en He is truly a great man, a titan, he led people to combat the evil of Communism. His work on rehabilitating (the victims of political repression) gave thousands and thousands of people an opportunity to remove a stain from them and their relatives.

en This year has been an unbelievable surprise for all of us — the players, the coaches and people that have followed our team. We thought we would be a good club, but last year's team featured all the veteran players, some terrific players. We thought that was our chance to win a national championship.

en He's sitting around here someplace smiling, just thrilled to death about the progress the league has made as far as with the assistant coaches, head coaches, coordinators, players. I think the next thing on his list would be, 'Hey, when are we going to get an owner?' Knowing him, that's what he would say.
