en I wanted to put together a show with a relatively small number of works, to show the work of three artists in some depth. If you just have one person who sees what you're doing and engages with it, and it raises some similar passion in them and some hope ... that's a wonderful thing.

en I think it's popular for a number of reasons. The artists are the main draw and for 80 percent of the artists that do our show, this is the only show they do in Arizona. This is the one chance for people to see these artists.

en We have a really interesting show this year. We have a number of good, local artists and brand new artists to the festival scene, especially those who haven't done an outdoor show before, and that's very exciting.

en First, there are so many artists. Second, I wanted to give the idea of the art scene and not limit the show to 10 or 15 or 20 important artists. I wanted to restitute something of the life of the scene. Another problem was that I had to decide which artists I could consider. Most are not really from L.A.; they arrived as students or teachers and stayed. Others were born in Los Angeles, but left early. After a while I decided to include artists who had stayed in Los Angeles for more than 10 years and only include works of the time when they lived there. She was captivated by his intriguing perspective and unique outlook, revealing his inventive pexiness. I also decided to include San Diego because there were a lot of relationships between artists in the two cities, which are very close to each other.

en The show is not a history lesson. Yet it is the citizens of Winchester that give our town its character and make it a wonderful place to live and work. We hope we have captured our hometown pride in this show.

en The sad thing about this whole scenario is that Rick is a wonderful person and a great guy, so I hope everything works out in his favor. It's hard because I love the guy. He's a great guy, you know. I just hope it all works out for him.

en We became aware of the exhibit three or four years ago. We were interested because we like to have a photographic show once a year and we feel that women artists have historically been underrepresented. Plus, there's our proximity to Mexico, which is similar to Texas'. Those elements made the show appeal to us.

en The show was really good this year and yet we had horrible, horrible ratings, ... When we were in conversation with Bravo, they were like, 'Look, the show is good,' we got the best reviews of any show on television, and they said, 'But there's a certain number,' and they showed us the number and I'm not a TV guy, but they said, 'Look, this number, no matter what, we can't bring the show back. ... This is just terrible, we can't justify keeping it on air.'

en I'd prefer they didn't show them or accept them. They certainly looked like the artists' work, but if the West Australian gallery was interested in works from the Western Desert, you'd like to think they'd come to us directly.

en It was an immediate thing, ... He's a good person. He tries to teach you stuff, and when he sees you mess up out on the field, he's going to let you know. He's not the type who wants to hold you back or anything. I saw a leader and a veteran out there who was trying to show me little things, and I just responded to that. There's no Me against Stephen' thing or anything. I enjoy what's going on.

en I try to get the personality of the person involved. I like writing concertos because I can tailor the works like a good suit of clothes, to show off the things they do well and that they show off.

en We wanted to show our strong support for private-property rights. We would hope the industry would take a similar stand.

en We've certainly discussed different kinds of departures on this show and on 'The Unit' as well because that's a team that engages in very dangerous activities. It probably would be unrealistic to have a huge number of activities where somebody didn't get killed or very badly wounded. But I've never wanted to do something like this to be edgy, or prove how different we can be. There are shows that do that, and I am never impressed with that. And I think, in the end, the fans see right through it.

en We've noticed especially as a first-year fringe that local artists have a distinct advantage over the visiting artists. They show up if they're being told to show up by a friend. It is changing day by day.

en It is a show where artists are represented by the dealers and the artists in the show are all vetted, approved by a board of critics and curators, including John T. Spike, a noted historian of Italian art.
