en Dave came along at a time when the club was struggling and it is disappointing that he's had to go. But there's never a shortage of people with the ambition to want to manage a football club.

en He has been a loyal servant of this football club over a long period of time and played a key role in one of our most successful eras. On behalf of our staff, players, members and supporters I would like to thank him for all he has given this club. He is a life member and as such knows full well he is always welcome around the club.

en There are so many aspects at a football club which support the playing side and it is important to have someone to focus on these at the club. en The first issue that needs solving is club vs. club. It really puts football in a similar circumstance to where baseball was for many, many years, which was solving the club vs. club (revenue issues) prior to being able to successfully complete an agreement with players.

en I don't know how much they (the Sunderland board) are going to look for but my worries now would not be financial at this stage - unless Sunderland go mad. We all said that, if we were to get him here, he would take to the football club, the area and the people. I think he's done that.
