en They had to pick a transaction register which had their occupation, marital status, number of children, net income and the amount saved for a home. That's what they had to live off. The goal is to see if they can live on their net income and to show them the more education they have, the better prepared they'll be financially.

en Some of the models driving the increase in vehicle price for sporty cars are the Pontiac Solstice, the Audi A3 and the Ford Mustang. It is also likely that demographics are playing a role here. A sporty car is generally not the primary car owned by a household. The 'Baby Boom' generation is at the peak of the earning cycle and makes up a significant portion of the population. An increase in demand from this significant portion of the population would have a positive impact on vehicle prices.

en I've gone back to work because I can't afford to live on a fixed income. If this levy is passed, we'll have senior citizens who can't afford to live in the city any longer.

en People try to live within their income so they can afford to pay taxes to a government that can't live within its income.

en More and more lower-middle-income families either live their lives in debt or leave the city altogether. The boom is strictly at the penthouse level.

en A lot of people who get laid off from corporate jobs end up doing some freelance work, ... But people who are coming from a job with a paycheck are not knowledgeable about the expenses they can file on Schedule C. They should familiarize themselves with those deductions. If they have considerable self-employment income, they can set up a Keogh or SEP IRA to shelter some of the income from taxes.

en Live/work units are more difficult to secure mortgages on because the proportion of the property given over to commercial use is typically much higher. However, they are a growing trend and lenders have to adapt. Halifax, for instance, says it is happy to lend on live/work units on a case by case basis.

en As the baby boom generation ages, we cannot continue on this troublesome path. We rely on federal funding for medical research and 'heart healthy' legislation. If we work together, we can get results.

en As you move forward in time, more and more of the baby boomers get fully protected. Past 2009, the bulk of the baby-boom (generation) is falling under that protection, and it becomes almost impossible to sustain that assurance.
